Fourth, play your scales. Learning to play piano well begins with the correct fingering of the scales. Use each of the group of keys ideally one group weekly or perhaps until such time you have mastered each well.
Then, raise the metronome's tempo for each set of keys then master it. You have to keep increasing the tempo till your clumsy hands are no more something of the past. We recommend metronome speed starting from a quarter note equals 80 before increasing to 96, 112, 120 and ultimately 144.
With these guidelines on conquering your clumsy fingers, learning how to play piano well will be very easy. Now go and have beautiful music.

Left-hand finger rolls on guitar can make your playing sound cleaner and more professional. Here’s how to play them:
The “finger roll” is used when playing two notes in a row that are on the same fret but on different strings. For example:
-1——
–1—–
——–
——–
——–
——–
In this example you play the first fret on the first string followed by the first fret on the second string. Both notes are on the same fret, but they are on different strings.
If you were to play these notes by lifting up your index finger and then moving it to the second string there would be a split second of silence that would make your playing sound choppy. In some cases that’s fine but usually you’ll want to get a nice flowing sound with no “gaps” of sound between the notes. The finger roll will help you do this.
To play the example above using a finger roll, you have to finger the first note a little differently than you normally would. Usually you would play it with the very tip of your finger. But when you do a finger roll you should move your finger over just a little bit so that it barely touches the second string. Now when you play the second note you should just “roll” your finger onto it instead of lifting your finger off of the first string and then placing it back down on the second string.
After completing the finger roll, you’ll be close to the normal playing position for the second note. The finger should be touching the second string from the beginning to the end this example. It should never lose contact.
You can also do a reverse finger roll:
–1—–
-1——
——–
——–
——–
——–
The finger motion in a reverse finger roll is just the opposite of a regular finger roll. You start with a nice arched finger on the first note, playing it with the tip of your finger as you normally would. Then play the second note by flattening your first finger so that it pushes down the first string on the first fret.
Make it a habit to look for chances to use the finger roll in your playing. Once you get the hang of it the finger roll will help your playing sound cleaner and more fluid.

How can I fully prepare myself to learn piano?
I’ve been trying to learn piano through self-study (and practice) but I can’t get used to the finger positioning. I find myself placing the wrong finger on the key I’m supposed to push very often. How can I fix this?
Also, what are some basic but very effective excercises I can do to help myself start out playing the piano better?
Thanks in advance!
