How do i get distortion tone on my guitar?

i just got a new guitar yesterday and i was wondering what i have to put the knobs at to get that grunge distorted sound. The knobs on my amp are Treble, Bass, Volume, and Gain. I also have two tone knobs on the guitar itself. Any ideas? Thanks

well. you can turn the gain up HIGH turn the volume down Low
that will overdrive the amp ang give you distortion. but
the easiest thing to do is buy a stomp box for distortion.that way you can just step on it and have then off again with out haveing to readjust your gain settings every time.
if you gonna get a stomp box. i highly recomend the BOSS brand pedals . they are expensive but they last longer and sound better than the cheap digitech and some others. the ibanez is a good one too.you can get a boss ds1 for less than 50 dollars. but they have better ones. that one is just the cheapest and still get BOSS./also. make sure your MID range on the tone is at least 80% up. the mids carry that tone more than the others.
