Many food aficionados will join the argument about which style of outdoor food preparation techniques are superb one. Sauce is better than grilling! Is better than grilling BBQ? Does it really matter?
What the sauce:
BBQ is cooking meat, usually pork shoulder, pork ribs, whole or halved chicken and beef brisket in a wood or charcoal / wood smoker, on a low heat, for a long time. The meat is typically pre-treated with a barbecue rub spice or marinade is cooked in a "smoke chamber" by smoke and indirect heat. A pork shoulder takes about eight hours to cook, a rack of pork ribs takes about four hours to cook, a whole chicken takes about two and a half and hour to cook a beef brisket takes approximately 12 hours to cook. Most of the meats are cooked at a constant temperature around 235 degrees F if possible. The meat a smoky flavor develops after Laden cooked in a smoke environment. That's why this style of cooking is often referred to as smoke BBQ.
What Grilling:
Grilling is cooking various meats over direct high heat, quickly. Grills are often fueled by coal, propane, natural gas, or even electricity. Kind of often grilled meats steaks, pork chops, hamburgers, sausages (bratwursts, Italian sausage, red hots Georgia), hot-dogs, cut up chicken, etc,. Direct heat means that when grilling, the food is placed directly over the flame or heat source of the grill. Grilling is a fairly quick process in comparison to traditional smoked roasting. Steaks can be cooked in 10-20 minutes, 15 minutes Burgers, sausages about 20 minutes, chicken around an hour.
Why are the arguments:
Why not? Foodies love to talk about food, and talking about the difference between smoke barbecue and grilled food is a good discussion. Many food people do not hold the position of grilled smoked barbecue meats are better than others. These are both very good way to cook like pieces of meat. Sa Indeed, many people who cook with the masters BBQ style grill and enjoy grilled meat, much like the grill master will sometimes smoke a pork butt for pulled pork.

What a great song to drum?
I'm drumming for about six months now, and I've gotten pretty good at double bass. Until now, I've been doing just beats up the play, but I wanted to try a song .. What a great song to try, it is not too hard, but still the heavy. Like chop suey, but with a different song ..
I know this is not your question and you ask my opinion, but your yourself a favor and put a double bass pedal away for a year or some will not have to build a decent right foot. You think metal is all you want to do right now, but I promise that will change and you suck on anything that requires a decent right foot. Even with more metal, a lot of what you think double bass is just a quick right foot. It kills me to see a new use of double bass drummer to pull off a 1 / 16 note that they should do their Sleep in a pedal. Also when the new drummers starting out on the double bass they tend to rely on it for fills instead of learning the proper chops. Many end up being overly busy drummers that one has no rent. But each his own …

55 Cadillac $16.99 Andrew W.K. has done a lot of unusual things in his career — not everyone can have a Cartoon Network show and be a member of Current 93 (not to mention run a club, release an album of J-pop covers, and publish a book of advice) at the same time. Still, 55 Cadillac may be one of the most unique additions to his body of work: it’s a collection of “spontaneous solo piano improvisations” — or “SSPIs” as W.K. calls them — inspired by his car. It’s also, like most of his projects, kind of ridiculous and kind of amazing. He’s completely committed to the concept, and he has the skills to pull it off. After all, W.K. is a classically trained pianist who began taking lessons at age four, and his keyboard chops added fizz to I Get Wet and Close Calls with Brick Walls and majestic heft to The Wolf. That prowess is the focus of this album; on his Steinway & Son Model D concert grand piano, Andrew W.K. weaves classical, jazz, rock, and experimental elements together with an accomplished ebb and flow from piece to piece and within each track. The fantastically named “Begin the Engine” (why merely start an engine when you can begin it?) is overtly classical-influenced, kicking off with the sound of crickets and a motor roaring to life before W.K.’s dazzling arpeggios and otherwise deft playing take over for nearly nine minutes. Shorter tracks like “Seeing the Car,” which tosses hints of ’50s-style rock into the mix, and the lunging, jazzy “Central Park Cruiser” are more immediate and nearly as impressive. Only a couple of moments on 55 Cadillac sound anything like Andrew W.K.’s previous albums: “Night Driver” ranges from atonal boogie-woogie to W.K. tapping on the piano’s edge (which might be the piano equivalent of a drum solo) and has an anthemic quality that’s fully realized by “Cadillac,” which boasts drums and laser-guided guitars that bring the album to a satisfyingly over the top close. Billy Taylor Jazz All-Stars concert at Carnegie Hall on 25 May 74 $9.98 To open this “52nd Street Revisited” program, emcee and eminent author Arnold Shaw provides a little background on that strip of real estate in midtown Manhattan where the bebop scene took hold back in the mid-1940s: “While Harlem was the incubator of bebop, it was 52nd Street that brought the music to the public, and in so doing, itself became a musical scene of musical conflict???Jimmy Ryan’s was the bastion of the two-beat crowd as The Three Deuces, Spotlight, Downbeat and Onyx provided a showcase for fanatics of the flatted fifth.” Shaw goes on to explain how the Oscar Pettiford-Dizzy Gillespie band was the first group on 52nd Street playing bebop. A young pianist named Bill Taylor, who was working at the Three Deuces with his own trio, subbed for Pettiford’s regular pianist George Wallington one night at the Onyx, igniting his life-long infatuation for these new harmonic and rhythmic concepts in jazz. Thirty years later, Taylor was on hand to celebrate that golden era of bebop in this special Carnegie Hall concert on May 25, 1974. Accompanying him are bebop stalwart Howard McGhee on trumpet, Jimmy Heath on tenor sax, Lyle Atkinson on bass and Bobby Thomas on drums. Together they burn through three bop staples frequently heard on 52nd Street back in the day — Charlie Parker’s chops-busting anthem “Donna Lee,” Thelonious Monk’s moody meditation “‘Round Midnight” and a rousing rendition of the popular Duke Ellington-Juan Tizol jamming vehicle, “Perdido.” Thomas’ irrepressibly swinging ride cymbal pulse fuels the heated proceedings on their sizzling rendition of “Donna Lee,” which opens with tight, blistering unison lines on the head between McGhee and Heath, who each turn in potent solos as the piece develops. The band was still promoting the first album, and most of this show consists of songs from that classic Boston record, which yielded hits such as “More Than A Feeling,” “Rock & Roll Band,” “Something About You,” “Smokin’,” and “Long Time.” They do, however, offer up “A Man I’ll Never Be,” which, at the time, had yet to be recorded. This recording proves that while the band may have been the ultimate example of corporate rock on vinyl, they certainly were a great live band. Recorded for the King Biscuit Flower Hour, this concert is proof that Boston had strong musical chops. The band remained viable and active through 1986, when their third album, Third Stage, was released. Then Scholz, an obsessive perfectionist, began a nearly ten year hiatus where he took time to start his own successful audio processing equipment company that features a number of inventions he had developed to assist him in making Boston albums. By the time he returned with 1994′s Walk On, he had been sued by Goudreau (for hurting his solo career) and by Epic for taking too long to deliver the band’s third and fourth albums. By then, he was the lone original member left in the band. Hence, Walk On was a failure both critically and commercially. In 1975, guitarist/songwriter/inventor/electrical engineer Tom Scholz, with a master’s degree from MIT, was working by day at Polaroid. By night, he was recording feverishly with his own rock band, Boston, that also consisted of fellow Bostonians Brad Delp on vocals, Barry Goudreau on guitar, Fran Sheehan on bass, and John “Sib” Hashian on drums. Spearheaded by Scholz, they spent most of 1975 writing an album’s worth of songs that would eventually transform itself into one of the most successful debut albums by a rock band in history. Chet Baker concert at Great American Music Hall on 09 Sep 82 $9.98 One of the most visible exponents of the West Coast cool school of jazz, trumpeter Chet Baker played in an intimate style that was far more restrained and mellow than incendiary boppers like Dizzy Gillespie and Fats Navarro or aggressively blowing hard boppers like Clifford Brown and Freddie Hubbard. Baker preferred to cook on a lower flame, enthralling audiences with his warm, expressive trumpet work and alluring vocals. By the time of this Great American Music Hall performance on September 9, 1982, Baker was just 52 years old and in the midst of a career comeback. But he would sadly have only six years to live, the victim of a tragic and mysterious death in Amsterdam at the age of 58. For this GAMH concert, Baker is accompanied by a San Francisco-based trio consisting of jazz veterans Al Plank on piano, Frank Tusa on bass, and Vince Lateano on drums. They open with a rendition of pianist Enrico Pieranunzi’s loping minor key number, “Nightbird,” that has the trumpeter blowing relaxed, deliberate lines on the head while striking a forlorn vibe on his haunting solo. Ray Noble’s romantic ballad “The Touch of Your Lips” is delivered with velvet tones and some alluring close-mic crooning by Baker. Tusa also turns in a lyrical and highly expressive solo on upright bass here over a double time swing section. His swinging interpretation of the standard “Just Friends,” a tune he had been playing since the beginning of his solo career, is also a showcase for Baker’s considerable scatting chops in the falsetto while Tusa turns in another virtuosic bass solo. An evocative unnamed ballad features some gentle Bill Evans-inspired piano from Plank. Baker begin this fragile piece with some achingly beautiful statements on trumpet, and as the piece picks in intensity during the swinging middle section he wails with impunity, only to return to the serene theme with uncanny sensitivity and lyricism on his horn. Hay’s feel-good music has a notable punk/funk edge and he’s got considerable chops, especially on slide guitar, and an over the top vocal approach that makes him sound like a party animal. As you might expect from the album title, Hay also has an irrepressible sense of absurd humor, although he does get relatively serious once a while. On “Friend,” one of the more sedate tunes on the disc, he gives us a slow, funkified blues with stuttering James Brown-influenced guitar accents and a wall-shaking bassline. It’s a salute to a pal who got him through some hard times, but adds a promise of a drunken binge. Think George Clinton meets J.J. Cale. “Get Me Some” gives the details of a New York City snack attack that leads Hay to the portals of a pizza joint. He salutes thin crust pizza using slashing acoustic slide and crunchy rock chords. “Deep Fried Satisfied” describes Hay’s ambivalence about fast food. He’d like a salad, but the chicken tastes so good, even as he ironically describes its affect on his arteries. While the rest of the songs are not about barbecue or fried chicken, they are greasy in that good, ol’ fashion, down-home way. He rails about dishonest used car salesmen on “Don’t Give Me That,” the tribulations of trying to pay bills over the phone on the stomping “On Hold,” and sings the praises of true love on “Heading Home” and “Miss You So.” The most surprising track is a cover of Queen’s “We Will Rock You,” an explosion of slide guitar delivered over a primitive drumbeat. Jimmy Smith Trio concert at Newport Jazz Festival on 05 Jul 64 $5.98 The undisputed heavyweight champion of the Hammond B-3 organ, Jimmy Smith revolutionized the unwieldy instrument by bridging the gap between bebop and blues with his earthy virtuosity. Though he wasn’t the first to play organ in a jazz context (Fats Waller, Milt Buckner and Wild Bill Davis had been there before), Smith took the B-3 to places that it had never been before. With Quentin Warren on guitar and William (Billy) Hart on drums, Smith opens his July 5th set at the 1964 Newport Jazz Festival with the bluesy “Sonnymoon for Two,” a quintessential jamming vehicle composed by tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins. Coming out of the familiar head, guitarist Warren offers a few swinging chorus on guitar before Smith enters with some blues statements on the B-3, gradually building his solo to stratospheric heights while anchoring the tune with his grooving foot pedal bass lines. Hart’s playing is relaxed, loose and syncopated here, perfectly complementing Smith’s incendiary keyboard work. By the halfway point of this nearly 15-minute marathon, it would seem that the organist might exhaust his supply of ideas, but he keeps blazing on with an audacious combination of chops, endurance and soul that leaves the audience stunned. His dynamic solo goes on for a full 10 minutes on this opening number without ever losing energy or excitement. From that stratospheric, swinging opener, the Smith trio heads into more earthbound terrain with a rendition of Ray Charles’ funky gospel-fueled hit from 1959, “I Got a Woman.” They follow with a lush version of “Moonlight in Vermont,” a huge hit in 1953 for guitarist Johnny Smith (with Stan Getz on tenor). Guitarist Warren carries this appealing melody while Smith lays a velvety cushion beneath his deliberate lines and drummer Hart underscores the proceedings with gently swinging brushwork. The Modern Jazz Quartet concert at Newport Jazz Festival on 01 Jul 65 $7.98 Formed in 1952, the Modern Jazz Quartet played at the first Newport Jazz Festival in 1954 with an intriguing variation on the lineup that featured Horace Silver on piano (subbing for John Lewis), Milt Jackson on vibraphone, Percy Heath on bass, and Kenny Clarke on drums. The following year they appeared at George Wein’s festival with the more familiar lineup of Lewis, Jackson, Heath, and drummer Connie Kay. That same unit appeared at the 1959 Newport Jazz Festival with their unique approach to blending chamber-like delicacy with blues feel and jazz improvisation, and re-visited the festival in 1965. They open their Thursday evening performance with Milt Jackson’s “True Blues,” an earthy, laid back number which was originally recorded by the group in 1952 for their self-titled debut. Kay initially underscores the proceedings with some supple brushwork, as Heath lays down some deep grooving walking bass lines. Lewis’ piano comping is sparse behind Jackson’s profoundly blue vibes solo, as Kay switches to sticks and eases into a lazy, behind-the-beat shuffle. Lewis then brings his own blues-tinged chops to bear on a brilliant piano solo. “Newport Miss” is a catchy new piece written by Lewis for this occasion of the 11th annual Newport Jazz Festival. A sublime version of George Gershwin’s “Summertime” expertly dips into that chamber-like aesthetic that the MJQ is so well known for, while also leaving plenty of room for personal expression in the individual improvisations. Jackson’s shimmering vibes solo here is one of the highlights of the set. “Home” is a jaunty blues number co-composed by Lewis and David Murray (and which had been recorded in big band form earlier in the year on the group’s 1965 recording Jazz Dialogue). They next interpret Gershwin’s lament “Man Man’s Gone Now” (like “Summertime,” it was also recorded for the group’s 1965 release, Plays George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess) with uncommon delicacy and soul. USED: Fury and Flames $7.99 Although the Scandinavian countries have been dominating death metal and black metal for a long time, one shouldn’t forget that many of the early death metal bands came out of the United States — and one of North America’s extreme metal pioneers was Erik Rutan, who was playing death metal and grindcore in the band Ripping Corpse as early as 1987 and continued in that vein in the ’90s and 2000s with Hate Eternal — all of which in addition to his contributions to Morbid Angel. Hate Eternal have had their share of lineup changes since the band’s formation in 1997 (which is certainly not unusual for a death metal/grindcore combo), and on Fury and Flames, the outfit unveils a new lineup consisting of Rutan on lead vocals and guitar, Shaune Kelley (another ex-member of Ripping Corpse) on guitar, Alex Webster (known for his contributions to Cannibal Corpse) on bass, and Jade Simonetto on drums. Of the four, Rutan is the only one who was part of Hate Eternal’s original lineup, but all those personnel changes haven’t changed their sound. Rutan, after all, is the brains behind Hate Eternal; the band has always been the brainchild of Rutan, who is known for liking his metal bombastic, harsh, dense, and ultra-fast. That has been Rutan’s mindset since the Ripping Corpse days, and he maintains his unapologetic viciousness on Fury and Flames. With this early-2007 recording, Hate Eternal provide yet another dose of unforgiving, head-crushing bombast that is usually delivered at breakneck speed. Nothing groundbreaking occurs, and anyone who expects a lot of nuance and melody from death metal should stick to bands like In Flames and At the Gates. But the songs on this album are well executed (never let it be said that Hate Eternal lack chops). And despite the obvious limitations of this approach, Rutan’s longtime fans will find Fury and Flames to be a decent, if predictable, exercise in sensory assault for the sake of sensory assault. ~ Alex Henderson, Rovi |

USED: The Glorious Revolution $4.99 The pulsing, kinetic sound that vaulted the Rocket Summer and the David Crowder*Band to the top of Christian rock charts apparently was contagious. It spread south down Interstate 35 from the homes of these heavyweights to find the next big thing from Texas — San Antonio’s Grey Holiday. Longtime friends Matt Minor (vocals/guitar), Steven Bedingfield (guitars/programming), R.T. Bodet (bass), and Josh Fenoglio (drums) had gigs fall in their laps practically while they were still honing their craft. Christian listeners who had their fill of Casting Crowns, MercyMe, and countless Brit-pop knockoffs had no problem sinking their teeth into this sumptuous serving of modern rock. Without gimmicks, the quartet’s earnestness was its strength on tracks like “Let Go” and “Where You Want Me.” The worship element of The Glorious Revolution doesn’t take a back seat so much as it is comfortably dressed up in a magnetic soundscape of guitars and heavy beats. The bandmembers described their sound to be somewhere between Maroon 5 and Muse, which is an expanse wide enough to drive a truck through. It may raise eyebrows to note Jason Ingram’s appearance as co-producer, since he made his name working with toned-down pop acts like Bebo Norman and Rush of Fools. However, the band trusted that he could bless a full-throttle rock record with his Midas touch, and Ingram delivered. He showed impressive chops by not only producing, but by co-writing every song. A downside is the album’s length, a mere six tracks recorded with the promise of “new music, more often” — meaning that the band committed to release another project within ten months and attempted to make up for the lack of music with multimedia material on the disc (mostly videos and an extended band interview). The Glorious Revolution is a surefire buzz-builder, an intriguing yet unfortunately short release by a band to watch over the coming years. ~ Jared Johnson, Rovi |

USED: West for Wishing [EP] $2.99 The West for Wishing EP is Matchbook Romance’s debut for Epitaph, who signed the upstate New York band after hearing their demo online. The newfound exposure also led to a name change — Matchbook Romance used to be known as the Getaway, but Epitaph put the kibosh on that moniker, as it was already in use. Matchbook Romance’s debut places the band at a crossroads. Vocalists/guitarists Andrew Jordan and Judas Depaolo aren’t as cry baby-ish as most emo in the wake of the genre’s popular breakthrough. But neither is the racket they and Ryan Kienle (bass) and Aaron Stern (drums) create angry or tough enough to be hardcore. Producer/mixer (and Epitaph owner/Bad Religion frontman) Brett Gurewitz has groomed tracks like “14 Balloons” and “Farewell to Friends” to feature both the plaintive and the powerful. Lyrics like “The stars, they lay across the sky perfectly/It’s our last night together” are finger-down-throat gagworthy, but Stern’s muscular percussion and the spiraling, crashing guitars definitely aren’t. This EP is a teaser for an eventual Epitaph full-length that should better align Matchbook Romance’s stage-burning musical chops with its sappy songwriting. ~ Johnny Loftus, Rovi |

Wailing Wall $16.98 Released in 1970 by the El Paso, TX, label Suemi, Wailing Wall’s sole LP is mostly an item for the psychedelic rock collector’s wish list, but it delivers an interesting enough listen for more casual fans of obscure American ’70s rock. Mike Cancellari (guitar), Doug Adams (vocals), Darrel Adams (bass), and David Rutledge (drums) were not the best of musicians, but what they lacked in tightness (and they did) they almost made up in feeling and a certain level of creativity. Cancellari was obviously a quick learner of Jimi Hendrix’s chops, but while other guitarists at the time were focusing on the genius’ sound and riffs, Cancellari picked up his bluesy soul (“Meet My Dreams” borrows the moody feel of “Rainy Day, Dream Away”). Doug Adams misses a few easy notes, but he has a deep soul-blues voice, between the range and strength of Chicago’s Robert Lamm and Terry Kath. The vocal harmonies in “Scissor-Tailed Swallow” and the addition of two trombones in “Meet My Dreams” provide extra similarities with early Chicago, although Wailing Wall’s brand of rock is heavier and definitely Southern. The heartfelt delivery and hard-thumping grooves (“Mad Rapper” crosses Hendrix’s “Red House” with the rootsier moments of early Captain Beefheart) compensate for some awful lyrics, especially in “Country of the Goose,” which could have been a strong song at four or five minutes, but becomes embarrassing at nine. Still, this album deserved to receive a wider audience than the El Paso locals. Shadoks reissued the album in 2004 with decent sound quality. ~ Fran? ois Couture, Rovi |
