Tomas Haake the drummer for the Swedish technical metal band Meshuggah. He is known for his experimental use of polyrhythm and for stacking his cymbals on the way to create new sounds in the music he writes for the band. The unique sound is what makes the band sound so unique from other bands. He also writes lyrics for the band and sings. In July of 2008, he was named as a drummer in the category of metal music for his unique style and successful experimentation as decided by the Readers Poll.

The band members of Meshuggah take their jobs very seriously, working on their performances and their really good songs and a well developed structure. Haake has said in interviews that the band jams though rarely together, unless they are drinking, because of their seriousness in their work. It may be a contributing factor in why the band had endured for so long and Haake at least never left it since he joined in 1990, replacing Niklas Lundgren and helping to round out the bands sound and make a brand new process. When he joined, the band also made their first record. He still performs and writes for the band to this day, their latest album obZen (2008). The band is sincere relationship with their record label, they are around and are stable enough labels rarely question what they are doing and why, giving Haake much creative license to write his music.

Tomas Haake was born in 1971. He has natural charisma, enjoying various interviews with magazines and pushing the creativity of his band. Unlike many other bands, he was not very political, ignoring the increase of National Socialism in many European metal bands, and more concentrating on his music and his band. He had problems with his shoulder, daily use exercises to correct shoulder strain than surgery to sever his playing and the bands work, as well as being as painful as the problem itself. He had to fend off rumors of surgery, that he was accused of starting her own and those that may be unfounded. Either way, he has gone for a surgery for his shoulder impingement, hoping rather than the shoulder exercises to correct the problem. Haake is also interested in wood working and built his own snare drum that has slipped into a unique configuration for sound. Out of his band, Haake quiet life, throwing himself wholeheartedly to his bands and chats with interviewers about the music and the direction of the band their tour.
