The History Of Epiphone And Gibson Guitars
The roots of Epiphone lie in the three continents; it was established in Europe (Greece), it flourished in The East (Turkey) and then gained recognition in the USA. It all started in 1873 when Anastasios Stathopoulos the son of a Greek timber merchant started production of musical instruments eg the normal Greek instrument lioutos, violins and lutes. The family then moved around to Turkey where the instruments became so popular that Stathopoulos opened a factory to manufacture the instruments.
Nevertheless the bias of Greeks in Turkey forced the family to shift to US in 1903. Once established in New York, Stathopoulos started manufacturing and selling the musical instruments from his house. Stathopoulos extended with mandolins a popular instrument of that time to his list of instruments and things seemed good as business developed. After the sudden death of Stathopoulos, his son Epaminondas (Epi) took control of his father’s business. Aware of the varying trends around him, Epi then initiated manufacturing banjos. The tremendous success of the business led straight to the establishment of the Epiphone Company in 1923 with Epi acting as their president. In the latter 1920s Epi adjoined guitars to their production list. The premium quality of Epiphone acoustic guitars and Epiphone bass guitars gave a tough time to the rivals Gibson Guitars a recognized brand.
During Second World War, Epiphone Guitars suffered a serious crisis when Epi died due to leukemia. None of his brothers were capable enough to handle the instrument company and Epiphone Guitars was bought by archrivals Gibson Guitars in 1957 who refurbished the Epiphone Guitar.
Epiphone got a new lease of life when Beatles played an Epiphone Guitar in 1964. To reduce the price tag; Epiphone Guitars were moved to Japan in 1970 and then to Korea in 1983. In 1990 the Epiphone Guitar came round again by manufacturing guitars in all styles including signature models for John Lennon, Noel Gallagher and John Lee Hooker.
Today Epiphone bass guitars are the most preferred instrument of many famous bass players. The Thunderbird, Les Paul Special, Viola, Jack Cassidy Signature are some popular bass guitar series from Epiphone.

A Brief History of Epiphone Guitars Logo
Epiphone its very beginnings in Greece where Anastasios Stathopoulos started out by traditional making stringed instruments such as violins, lutes, mandolins, and a Greek instrument called the lioutos. The family then moved to Smyrna in Asia Minor, but later fled to New York for the prosecution.
After moving to New York, Anastasios son, Epi Stathopoulos, inherited the family instrument making business. During the first year of Epi s running of the business, the company called the House of Stathopoulos. However, Epi has changed from that to Epiphone. He filed for changes in advance, but it did not become official until 1928. The new company was named for Epi, the owner, and phonos, the Greek word for sound. At this point, This is called the Epiphone banjo Company.
Epiphone launched their first guitars in 1931. They had a full line of what is known as the archtop style guitar popular in jazz and blues players. After their launch they become one of the largest companies in the Gibson guitar as their main rivals.
Things changed after Epi died of leukemia. He left the business to his brother Orphie and another brother, Frixo, became president. This is not a useful collaboration. The two brothers had a disagreement and Frixo sold his stock in the company. After that, Epiphone fell on hard times both for the war and for poor management.
The fate of the company changed in 1957 when Chicago Musical Instrument, Gibson s parent company, purchased Epiphone. Now, The company is considering a subdivision of Gibson, although it maintains its own line of original.
Epiphone has its own line of sound guitars as well as electric. The first instrument created Stahopoulos family, after all, is the instrument sound. Overall this guitar astonishes as a bang-for-buck items. So much more superior than what is available to me in this column than the price when I picked up a guitar in the mid seventies. Computer-programmed, manufacturing has spawned some really accurate, cheap guitars. What a true blessing. I must commend the builders or factory workers as the case may be making instrument. Affordable, inexpensive guitars are better and more plentiful than ever. Overall, this guitar is good enough to warrant all the words I've spent in glowing about it. I have written maybe three reviews in my life, because I usually don t bother.

Which should I get bass guitar, an Epiphone or Squier Pete Wentz?
I am a guitarist, and I was interested in playing bass, but I was wondering which one is worth my money, Pete Wentz Signature bass guitar, bass guitar or an Epiphone? Also my band is performing in the genre of Punk, Post-Hardcore, and Rock.
Dont make the one Pete Wentz …. I played it at guitar center, just try everything they (tried by squier … its american made I do what my time) … and it is not the guitar for anyone interested in playing acutally … Often times Epiphone instruments are actually made very good (I have an Epi Les Paul and a Gibson Les Paul, that Crazy is not different, but the Epi was still decent quality) … If it were my choice, Epi is the way to go (Unless you can save up for a Mexican defense, or something, to compare) ALSO .. If you are open to other brands, save up another hundered and check out the Schecter stilettos, Very nice to play them for under 400 …… Highly recommend
