Famous Violin Makers Stradivari

famous violin makers stradivari

The violin as we know it today, evolved from very early stringed instrument sometime in the 15th century. Once the instruments had two strings, but like the violin, has also played with a bow. Two famous "school" of violin making began in the 16th century. The Cremonese school was started by a famous that makes time, Andrea Amati. About that same time, there is another famous maker, Gasparo da Salo, who was in Brescian school. During this time, all the violin production is done in Italy. Later, in the 17th century, started very good violins made in Germany also.

The most famous violin-makers of all times Stradivari and Guarnieri. Both the Italian master violin makers made violins in the early 18th century. Violins from either of these two masters are the most highly prized and sought After all the world. The best professional violinists now play one of their instruments. There was also a very good German violin makers during this period named Jacobus stainer. However, he did not achieve the same notoriety level as the Italian makers.

The sound quality and Guarnierius Stradavarius violins are considered the best in the world. Although there are very good quality violins made after the 18th century, and very good quality violins made today, They do not have the same rich features as phonic violins made the early masters. There were a lot of investigation and speculation on why this is. Some believe it is the quality of wood used at that time, or the fact that the wood is transported by floating the logs down a river, or perhaps the ability of craftsmen, or perhaps it was caused by the gathering of wood and the varnish through the centuries that produces their unique sound.

There are others, believe it has more to do with the wooden "plug" used prior to varnishing, and possibly also the lacquer itself. It is now possible to double or a Stradivarius violin Guarnierius in every way, using the same kind of very old wood, and using the same dimensions, techniques and tools. However, before varnishing, a new violin is made coated with a liquid to fill the microscopic gaps in the wood, to disguise the not saturate the wood but with a perfectly even finish. This is the "filler" Violin makers and restorers who can not duplicate. Today's violin makers do not know what is used by the early masters, and therefore, can not duplicate it. There are craftsmen who offer a great deal of time experimenting with different formulations in an effort to find the "secret", but has eluded them so far. Also, The glossiness of the day it is a quick-drying variety. The old varnishes will take months to dry. Perhaps a combination of all these things are done it impossible to exactly duplicate the sound of the early masters' violins, though they can be physical duplicates.

While duplicating the sound of a Stradivarius is not possible, fortunately, learning to play like a master violinist is possible. Although it takes dedication and solid training, the methods used master violinists of today can be learned by serious students, who may one day become a master violinist also able to teach others.

This adaptable instruments origins date back centuries. Celtic legends amuse us with mystical stories describing the creation of stringed music, but practical history recounts that the modern birth of the violin occurred in Italy as early as the sixteenth century. The skilled craft of hand production was renowned in France as well, but it is the British classic type and its history that W. Meredith Morris writes about in British Violin Makers .This classic, comprehensive reference to violin making, reprinted in 1920, features a biographical dictionary of craftsmen, along with many of their signatures and marks. Twentysix photographs of selected makers and their instruments help place the contemporary reader in the style of the period. Reverend Morrisis second edition improves upon the first 1904 edition by adding more than 150 names to the list of makers who produced six violins or more. A new foreword by music scholar Benjamin Hebbert explains the important role British violin makers played in the development of the instrument. From Morrisis narrative, one gets a feel for the importance of the craftsman and his materials. He explains the various types of wood and varnish used, and how they, along with the arch and contour, work together to produce a specific tone. Speaking with fervor, the way a wine connoisseur does when describing a certain vintage, Morris compares andcontrasts the quality of British instruments to that of other nations. Author: Morris, W.
