Easy Ways To Craft Truly Unique Scrapbook Creations

It’s not at all that surprising why more and more people are getting into scrapbooking nowadays. The craft helps organize and preserve precious memories in forms of photographs and mementos. It serves as an ice breaker or entertainment when guests come over your house. What’s more, it allows you to put your creativity to use.

Most scrapbookers rely on tools, materials and embellishments found being sold at arts and crafts supplies stores. If that’s the case, how can one come up with something one of its kind? For sure buying ready-to-use albums and embellishments won’t help you do just that.

First you must remember that using expensive materials will not necessarily make your album extra special. Even if you make scrapbooking papers out of recycled folders or cardboard sheets, you can turn them into visually-delightful pages. So if you’re on a budget, fret not. The beauty of a scrapbook is not relative to the amount of money you shell out for it.

Instead of using just about any picture, pick only some that are truly one of a kind. For example, a snapshot of the entire family each wearing a giro ski helmet during a trip to a famous skiing destination. Or an underwater photograph of everybody surrounded with tropical fishes of every shape and color imaginable.

There are all sorts of embellishments which you can use to make every page really stunning. A quick trip to an arts and crafts store will give you much decorating needs. But there are items which can make for truly one-of-a-kind embellishments. Those which can’t be bought in any store by fellow scrapbookers like yourself.

A gift wrapper or leftover wallpaper may be used as photo and page borders. The graphics on postcards, greeting cards and invitations you received can be cut and used as decors as well. Fabrics, lace, and buttons from old clothing items can make for interesting trimmings. Even things you can pick up during your trip may be used, like stones, shells and others!

For sure other people’s scrapbooks contain pages about Thanksgiving, Valentine’s Day, Christmas, New Year and others. To come up with a completely inventive album, why not focus on other special moments? You can highlight someone in the family finally getting something he or she wished for. Like your daughter receiving a pair of luxurious women’s brown boots. Or your son clutching his dream remote control car. Or how about you getting a nifty tattoo perhaps?

In making truly unique scrapbook albums, just put your imagination to work. But do know when to stop embellishing your pages. Sometimes when you get a little too crazy designing them, they end up in a mess. Just remember to keep everything simple and creatively done.

 DJ Hero

DJ Hero

$39.99

After years of celebrating rock & roll culture and making gamers feel like guitar gods, Activision turns its attention to hip-hop pioneers like Kool Herc and Grand Wizard Theodore by offering players more than 80 original mixes to blend, juggle, and scratch in DJ Hero. Featuring a variation of the “note highway” mechanic popularized by Guitar Hero and Rock Band, and incorporating a turntable-and-mixer peripheral controller, DJ Hero finds gamers manipulating a crossfader and effects knob with one hand, while using the other hand to press three gameplay buttons located atop a fully rotatable faux record. Instead of increasing difficulty by making players account for more buttons, DJ Hero begins to incorporate more scratching and crossfader movement in an attempt to foster a more authentic feel. Developer FreeStyleGames worked closely with world-renowned artists DJ Shadow, DJ Z-Trip, DJ AM, and Cut Chemist to create a realistic experience, and all four DJs contributed original mixes and mash-ups. DJ Hero also features DJ Jazzy Jeff and Grandmaster Flash as playable characters, but the game does not mine its track list solely from the world of hip-hop, featuring portions of more than 100 individual songs from artists such as Marvin Gaye, Beck, Nirvana, Daft Punk, and Tears for Fears. The game takes players to a variety of locations designed to mimic real-life party hotspots, and gamers looking for multiplayer action can hook up multiple controllers for competitive “DJ vs. DJ” mode, or the co-operative “DJ + DJ” and “DJ + Guitar” modes. ~ Christopher Brown, All Game Guide

Fleetwood Mac concert at Carousel Ballroom on 08 Jun 68

After distinguishing himself and achieving a level of recognition in Europe, like Eric Clapton before him, Peter Green departed John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, freeing himself of employment and artistic restrictions. However, unlike most of the British guitar greats, Green was never concerned with flash or becoming a guitar superstar – an attitude that made him one of the most compelling of all the British guitar players from the 1960s. Green could play incisively and cleanly, but was equally adept at ripping with tremendous power. This made listening to any of Green’s material a rewarding experience; many of his originals have a timeless quality that still sounds fresh and intriguing today. This outstanding early performance by Fleetwood Mac occurred only a week into their first visit to the United States, when Peter Green was only 21 years old. Falling right between the release of their self-titled debut album and their follow-up, Mr. Wonderful, this show captures the band in its early incarnation, when they were still a quartet – and one of the Crusaders of the late ’60s English blues movement. Peter Green was the chief architect of the band’s sound at this point, and was providing the bulk of their original material. Green was beginning to explore music outside traditional blues, and his playing could be wonderfully restrained one minute and powerfully explosive the next, marked by a distinctive vibrato and economy of style. His haunting, sweet-yet-melancholy tone was very distinctive, and was blessed with an inherently human quality that other British guitarists often struggled for. At this early stage, Jeremy Spencer comprised the band’s other creative force. Spencer could authentically recreate Elmore James onstage, and this novel ability, along with a ribald sense of humor (shared by the entire band), helped fuel the band’s early stage shows. Spencer could also create dead-on parodies of 1950s rock ‘n’ roll songs, often of the teen idol variety, giving the

However, unlike most of the British guitar greats, Green was never concerned with flash or becoming a guitar superstar. This humble attitude and his approach to music, made him one of the most compelling of all the British guitar players of the 60′s. Green could play incisive and clean style perfectly, but was equally adept at playing with tremendous power. His style was highly nuanced without ever relying on cliches. This made listening to anything Green had to say with his guitar a rewarding experience. Many of his originals have a timeless quality that still sound fresh and intriguing today. Green was the chief architect of Fleetwood Mac’s music, providing the bulk of their original and pure blues material. His playing could be wonderfully restrained one minute and powerfully explosive the next, marked by a distinctive vibrato and economy of style. His haunting, sweet-yet-melancholy tone was quite distinctive and he had an inherent human touch that other British guitarists struggled for. Initially, Jeremy Spencer was the band’s other faction. Spencer could authentically recreate Elmore James onstage and this novel ability, along with a ribald sense of humor (that the entire band shared), helped fuel the band’s early stage shows. In 1968, Green recruited Boilerhouse guitarist, Danny Kirwan, into the band, expanding the lineup to a quintet. Kirwan too had a guitar style that was utterly unique and his presence dramatically changed the sound of the band. Kirwan’s presence increased the band’s dynamic and Green’s creativity level soared as a result. Over the course of the next two years, Green’s playing would reach stratospheric hieghts as the group began exploring music outside the traditional blues format. As a result, the group’s live inten

 In Your Lonesome Town

In Your Lonesome Town

$13.98

There’s a photo inside Devil in a Woodpile’s In Your Lonesome Town, taken from the point of view of a light fixture far above. It depicts a makeshift recording studio set up on the tile floor and Oriental rug below. An acoustic bass lies on its side near a big piano; washboards, jugs, and a lone kick drum are spread across the far side of the rug. Microphone cords snake here and there, and the surfaces of two National steel-bodied guitars gleam in the camera’s flash. The shot captures the casual hominess of Devil in a Woodpile’s music, the music that takes a toothy-grin approach to blues, bluegrass, hot jazz, and hillbilly sounds, throwing them all into a big hat and using the result to buy beers for the room. (That room is usually a rollicking Chicago tavern called the Hideout, where Woodpile has a regular and unamplified Tuesday night gig.) Bandleader Rick “Cookin’” Sherry is his usual self here, his vocals somewhere between hoedown rap and impromptu Saturday night singer. He plays that washboard, jug, and kick drum throughout Lonesome Town, as well as clarinet (to great effect on a sleepy “Louisiana Fairytale”) and harmonica. Guitarist Joel Paterson is confident, quick, and nimble — he handles a sped-up version of Charley Patton’s “Shake It and Break It,” gives Led Zeppelin’s “Bron-Y-Aur Stomp” a prickly steel guitar quality that matches wits with the bass and chattering washboard, and sloshes along with Sherry on “When I’m Drinkin’.” Sherry’s clarinet is alive again on the shuffling hot jazz number “Has My Gal Been By Here?” (which also features some great tuba work), and the original Sherry/Paterson instrumental “Beer Ticket Rag” is as casual, fun, and hothouse evocative as those Hideout sessions can be. (Great splash cymbal accents, too.) Devil in a Woodpile probably aren’t roots music puritans. They just mix and match what works for them from the forms they love, let Sherry loose over the top, and bind it all together with energetic playing …

You asked for it…you got it! Introducing the Les Paul Traditional from Gibson USA. With all the fat, sweet, snarling Les Paul tone that purists love, the Traditional plays, sounds, and weighs like the Les Pauls todays players grew up loving and lusting after. Taking design and visual cues from the Les Pauls of the 80s and '90s, the Les Paul Traditional starts with an un-chambered mahogany body with traditional weight-relief holes for a beefy tone that maintains the resonance of modern Les Pauls. Each Les Paul Traditional also comes with Gibson USAs standard black snakeskin case.TonePros Kluson Vintage-Style TunersThe Les Paul Traditional is outfitted with Kluson-style tuners from TonePros, which are made to look identical to the vintage tuners found on earlier Les Pauls. These TonePros machine heads feature completely sealed components with an improved 16:1 tuning ratio.Vintage Gibson Speed KnobsThe Les Pauls of the 1980s and 1990s were used to play heavy duty rock and roll, and its features were designed to make playing the music as simple as possible. Gibson's classic speed knobs made it comfortable and quick for players to turn up the volume and adjust the Les Paul's tone as needed in a flash."Plus" Maple TopEver since the introduction of the Les Pauland especially the models from Gibson "Golden Era" of the late 1950s and early 1960sone of its most distinguishing features has been the unique, highly distinct patterns of the flame maple top. The "Plus" maple caps on the Les Paul Traditionals emulate the tops of the Les Pauls from yesteryear (Ebony and Goldtop models are fitted with "Plain" maple tops).Period-Correct PickguardThe creme-colored pickguard has been a Les Paul staple dating back to the models of the late 1950s and the early 1960s. Personae

Personae

$16.98

The albums that bassist Jonas Hellborg has made with guitarist Shawn Lane and drummer Jeff Sipes (aka Apt. Q-258) have all been an invigorating blend of jaw-dropping virtuosity and immediately accessible melodic and harmonic beauty. Personae is no exception to what has now become a pretty well established rule. As usual, Lane’s guitar tends to be the focus of the compositions and takes the lead role in the performances. His style is quite elaborate and “notey,” but he rarely places flash over substance — the joyful lyricism of his playing on ” Heretics” is a fine example. Even when the density of his technique threatens to overwhelm the music, as it does on “Rice With the Angels,” that very density creates its own interest and its own harmonic identity. Only fellow guitarists will be likely to find every minute of each long composition completely enthralling, but there’s no denying both the excitement of his style and the depth of his musical thinking. Then there’s Hellborg himself, who rarely chooses an inessential note and never fails to impress with his own amazing technical prowess. Sipe is a sympathetic and intuitive accompanist who never tries to upstage the others. Personae is a worthy contribution to the growing catalog of excellent recordings by this trio. ~ Rick Anderson, Rovi
