Buy Guitar For The First Time? Here’s Some Advice Before You Visit The Music Store

How much would you spend on a guitar?

When you buy your first guitar, you should know that they are sold for as little as $70. If you buy a used one, even cheaper. And at the end of the page, the price tag can be the size of a barn. I spotted a Gibson J-250 the other day. $20.000 – a bargain! The day after they practically gave away a Martin D50. The price was as low as $39.999!

So you have a wide range to choose from and the decision is yours. It doesn’t really matter if you buy a cheap guitar or an expensive one. A cheap guitar is as good as any to practice on. But don’t go out and buy the cheapest guitar they have, if you’re not sure that it is of good quality. This because you need a guitar that stays in tune all over the neck. This is not the case with many of the cheapest guitars.

So maybe you should at least go for $250-300 for a classical guitar. For a steel-string, a little more.

A classical guitar or a steel-string acoustic?

Or…you maybe want an electric guitar? “Don’t even think of it!” says Mr Know-All. Again – you are the judge here. Of course, if you want to study classic guitar the choice is a nylon stringed guitar. But in most cases it is a question of taste. What sound do you like? Make your choice from that.

The nylon string guitar have a smoother sound than the steel-stringed. They are also not so mean on your fingertips. On the other hand they have a neck which is wider than the steel-string guitar. This can be a problem if you have small hands.

As hinted before, you can choose the electric guitar as you begin to play. People have a way of saying “Buy a real guitar” to start with.” But the electric guitar is very much a “real” guitar. Its strings are even easier to press down than the nylon strings. You will have to dig a little deeper into your treasure chest, though. The electric guitar isn’t so fun to play on without an amp. And make sure the strings are good quality – it is slightly more difficult to tune an electric guitar, and with no-good strings it’s even harder to make the guitar sound good.

Conclusion

So what I’m trying to say is; As long as the guitar is of decent quality, feel free to buy the guitar you like, based upon your likings, style…..and maybe your hands size.

Comparing Two Leading Brands Of Acoustic Guitar

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced player, it is important to know what brands you can rely on when shopping for a new guitar. Get to know what you are after in terms of body shapes that are available, quality of materials used, the sound produced by the instrument, and its visual appeal.

Deciding on a body shape will depend on what you are using the guitar for. A steel-stringed dreadnought acoustic guitar is great for stand alone performances by artists with a little experience. It has a bigger, more bass sound than the smaller classic body guitar, and a tone that many artists prefer.

Smaller instruments, such as the nylon-stringed classic acoustic and the steel-stringed artist body shape are ideal for beginners. They offer a good sound whilst being easier to hold. They are also used by artists who perform with a band, as they produce a more treble sound that carries better over the noise of other instruments, and causes less feedback.

One of the best instruments you can buy is the Alvarez acoustic guitar. This manufacturer, based in St Louis, Missouri, is renowned for producing excellent quality instruments for all levels of ability. They have a far-reaching history for attention to tradition, quality and detail. Many guitarists prefer the tone produced by an Alvarez. The guitars are usually produced in China, but some higher-end instruments are actually hand-crafted by Kazou Yairi in Gifu, Japan.

One of the most popular series produced by Alvarez is their Regent series. Though these instruments are the entry level standard recommended for beginners, they are given the same attention as the higher level instruments. They maintain superior value to entry level guitars produced by other manufacturers, offering optimum tone and tuning stability.

The Masterworks series, at the other end of the scale, captures the height of instrumental performance and visual appeal. For the discerning artist, it is worth paying more to ensure the best possible tone and quality.

Another highly distinguished manufacturer of guitars is Takamine. They first began making guitars in 1962, with a focus on innovation and designs to suit the progression of musical styles and techniques. They were the first to produce acoustic/electric guitars, and they have not ceased in their pursuit to create a wide variety of instruments for all different musical tastes. Originally a small family business, the quality of their instruments has ensured international success and Takamine is now amongst the biggest names in acoustic guitars. The Takamine acoustic guitar often resembles Martin guitars, but are marketed at a much lower price.

In comparing these two brands, it is important to keep in mind that there is no one acoustic guitar that will suit all players. Different players will prefer different tones and body shapes. Takamine produces a very wide range of guitars for all budgets and skill levels, but many dislike the bright, clean tone that these instruments produce. The Alvarez is popular for its rich, mellow tone.

History of The Guitar

The guitar is probably one of the most recognized musical instruments apart from the piano. What many people do not realize is This symbol of rock and roll has been around for over 4,000 years, in some form or another.

Source
The first real guitar-like item to detect The tanbur. One of them is actually found in Egypt, Queen Hatshepsut's tomb nearby. tanbur were developed and polished cedar is a Soundboard skin. Although featuring only three strings, it resembles a crude guitar. Tanbur be seen in the archaeological Museum in Cairo and it was about 3500 years old.

Shortly After the tanbur is popular in Egypt, the lute was developed in Europe. This instrument consists of a rounded body with a very short neck. Many historians say that this progress to be a completely different line of musical instruments and has nothing to do with the guitar, while others claim it is.

What we do know is that there are a number of inventions throughout history around the world utilized the basic idea of a soundbox body, long fretted neck and different numbers strings, including sitar, Star, and chitar, a four stringed musical device is replaced 'chitarra' or 'guitarra' when it reached Spain.

Early Guitars
The original version rather stumpy in appearance, with only 8 frets above the soundbox at most only four strings. These are popular during the 16th century, but by the following century, the instrument was changed to have six strings and 12 frets along the neck.

During 1800's, the guitar was essentially the same form we see it now, only smaller sizes. The form of the body is fairly straight. In the 1850's, a Spanish instrument builder named Antonio Torres took the initiative to create a larger body, changed the size, and invented the top bracing pattern gives guitars now more volume, in a fan shape. However, only a few years later, a German by the name of Christian Frederich Martin designed a version with X brace. When steel strings began to emerge in 1900, the older, fan shaped brace could not stand the tension provided by the steel strings. Martin's design took hold, as it is far more powerful and the guitar held together very well, withstanding the far louder strings steel. This version was changed very little between decades, design is finally settled.

Altering a Classic
When the basic form is established, people began to come up with their own version. Orville Gibson has built an arch top guitar sound hole, Lloyd Loar design modified further to create jazz guitar with f-holes, cello from the back and a floating bridge.

Then, in the 1920's, the electric guitar is built, without the need for a soundbox because it is the electrical pickups. This form was not popular for another couple of decades, but after a number of variations made to it, as well.

The guitar is a long and varied history. Still, it is fascinated people for centuries and perhaps we have not seen the end of the variations in the main form.
