Annie’s Song $22.99 “”Annie’s Song” is the true story of the unusual friendship between two ten year-olds, set in the 1950′s. Emma is funny and smart and lives with her Italian family, across the way from Annie, who is mentally challenged. Emma’s home is full of music and great cooking while Annie’s home is somber and quiet. Together, however, they learn just what makes the other ‘tick’ and prove along the way, that love does, indeed, conquer all. This story is a glorious tribute to special needs children everywhere and everyone who would befriend them. For forty years Betsy Corona wanted to write the story of Emma and Annie. She finally got her chance in 2006. After working for several years in her parish elementary school’s library, she came to realize the audience for such a story and began to write. “Annie’s Song” was written as a legacy for the real life “Annie.” Betsy is married and lives in Michigan where she and her husband, Rick, enjoy their many children and grandchildren.” |

Song of Songs $38 “The most intimate of all human relationships, according to the Bible, is that between a husband and a wife. It is not surprising, therefore, that there is a book of the Bible, the Song of Songs, that focuses on this relationship. What is surprising is how little attention is given to the Song of Songs by scholars, by the church, and by readers of the Bible. With this volume, however, Tremper Longman III has written a fine commentary on the Song of Songs, unpacking for modern people what this ancient love poem says about the male-female relationship — and, by analogy, about God’s love for his people.>Longman’s superb study begins with a thorough introduction to the Song of Songs and its background. Longman discusses the book’s title, authorship, date, literary style, language, structure, cultural milieu, and theological content. He also canvasses the long history of interpretation of the Song of Songs, a history too often characterized by repression of the text. In the commentary itself, Longman structures the Song of Songs according to its twenty-three poetic units and explains its message verse by verse. The exposition is made clearer by Longman’s adoption of an anthropological approach to the text and by his frequent comparisons of the Song of Songs with other ancient Near Eastern literature.>Learned yet highly accessible, innovative yet fully informed by past scholarship, this commentary shows the beautiful Song of Songs to be a timeless celebration of human love and sexuality.” |

The Song of Bernadette $18.95 This is the classic work that tells the true story surrounding the miraculous visions of St. Bernadette Soubirous at Lourdes, France in 1858. Werfel, a highly respected anti-Nazi writer from Vienna, became a Jewish refugee who barely escaped death in 1940, and wrote this moving story to fulfill a promise he made to God. While hiding in the little village of Lourdes, Werfel felt the Nazi noose tightening, and realizing that he and his wife might well be caught and executed, he made a promise to God to write about the “song of Bernadette” that he had been inspired by during his clandestine stay in Lourdes. Though Werfel was Jewish, he was so deeply impressed by both Bernadette and the happenings at Lourdes, that his writing has a profound sense of Catholic understanding. |

Image Song $71.7 An image song or character song is a song on a tiein album for an anime, game or dorama that is usually sung by the seiy or actor of a character, in character. It is meant to give a sense of the personality of the character. Image songs are considered an important part of an anime or doramas success, as they often provide insights to a character that may otherwise go unexplored on the program itself. The series creators may also include details about a particular characters design stages and evolution, and on occasion even design sketches so fans can see for themselves how a character changed. There may also be comments from the seiyuus or actors on how they feel about playing their characters. Sometimes image songs are incorporated into the anime itself, such as Kyran Kazoku Nikki, which has each of its main characters sing an image song as the ending theme, each with its own animation. Another example is Prince of Tennis, which has the openings and ending songs for the OVA episodes sung by characters in the anime. The Shepherd’s Song $14.99 “Your life is going well — you are winning the battles of faith and enjoying your relationships with people and with God. Suddenly, you stumble. Things go wrong — you lose your job; your marriage crumbles; or a loved one dies. Through prayer and perseverance, you recover and regain your strength; but disaster strikes again — unexpected temptation shakes your faith — and you find yourself searching for answers.>Suddenly, you hear a friendly, calm voice singing a song of strength and renewal. A handsome man from the past appears; he extends a hand of hope and lifts you to your feet. He introduces himself as David, the shepherd. He begins to sing a beautiful song — the song of his life, his struggles and victories — and the melody of his life amazingly resembles your own.>”We’re not much different, you and I. Your victories…failures…surprises…and disappointments — I know them all. Come, and I will share the secrets of finding the heart to go on.”>Accept his invitation and discover how the most thrilling and adventurous life in Scripture holds valuable meaning for your own life of faith. Anderson’s extensive research and travels throughout the Holy Lands eminently qualify him to lead you on this journey of faith. At times, you will visualize David’s adventures so clearly you will feel as though you are there. Other times, your view of the shepherd turned king will be eclipsed by the reflection of yourself. But at all times, you will hear the song — the shepherd’s song — and it will give hope and meaning to your own life’s song.” |

Goat Song: $15.84 Acclaimed novelist Brad Kessler lived in New York City but longed for a life on the land where he could grow his own food. After years of searching for a home, he and his wife, photographer Dona Ann McAdams, found a mountain farmhouse on a dead-end road, with seventy-five acres of land. One day, when Dona returned home with fresh goat milk from a neighbor’s farm, Kessler made a fresh chèvre, and their life changed forever. They decided to raise dairy goats and make cheese. Goat Song tells about what it’s like to live intimately with animals who directly feed you. As Kessler begins to live the life of a herder — learning how to care for and breed and birth goats — he encounters the pastoral roots of so many aspects of Western culture. Kessler reflects on the history and literature of herding, and how our diet, our alphabet, our religions, poetry, and economy all grew out of a pastoralist milieu among hoofed animals. Kessler and his wife adapt to a life governed by their goats and the rhythm of the seasons. And their goats give back in immeasurable ways, as Kessler proves to be a remarkable cheesemaker, with his first tomme of goat cheese winning lavish praise from America’s premier cheese restaurants. In the tradition of Thoreau’s Walden and Annie Dillard’s Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, Goat Song is both a spiritual quest and a compelling and beautiful chronicle of living by nature’s rules. |

4 Minutes (Madonna Song) $122.67 4 Minutes is a song by American singersongwriter Madonna from her eleventh studio album, Hard Candy. It was released as the lead single from the album on March 17, 2008 by Warner Bros. Records. Initially known as 4 Minutes to Save the World, the songs development was motivated by a sense of urgency to save the planet from destruction, and how people can enjoy themselves in the process. According to Madonna, the song inspired her to produce the documentary I Am Because We Are. The song features vocals by American musicians Justin Timberlake and Timbaland. An uptempo dance song with an urban, hip hop style, it also incorporates Timbalands bhangra beats. The instrumentation used in the song includes brass, foghorns and cow bells. The songs lyrics carry a message of social awareness, inspired by Madonnas visit to Africa and the human suffering she witnessed. 4 Minutes has been praised by many contemporary critics. Some have noted, however, that Madonna rather than Timberlake appeared as more of a featured artist in the song. 4 Minutes achieved worldwide success by topping the charts in Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy and other European nations. Author: Miller, Frederic P./ Vandome, Agnes F./ McBrewster, John Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 198 Publication Date: 2009/12/24 Language: English Dimensions: 6.00 x 9.00 x 0.45 inches |

Ecclesiastes Song Of Songs $29.99 “The NIV Application Commentary Ecclesiastes/Song of Songs. Ecclesiastes and Song of Songs have always presented particular challenges to their readers, especially if those readers are seeking to understand them as part of Christian Scripture. Ecclesiastes regularly challenges the reader as to grammar and syntax. The interpretation even of words which occur frequently in the book is often unclear and a matter of dispute, partly because there is frequent word-play in the course of the argument. The argument is itself complex and sometimes puzzling and has often provoked the charge of inconsistency or outright self-contradiction. When considered in the larger context of the OT, Ecclesiastes stands out as an unusual book, whose connection with the main stream of biblical tradition seems tenuous. We find ourselves apparently reading about the meaninglessness of life and the certainty of death in a universe in which God is certainly present but is distant and somewhat uninvolved. When considered in the context of the NT, the dissonance between Ecclesiastes and its scriptural context seems even greater; for if there is one thing that we do not find in this book, it is the joy of resurrection. Perhaps this is one reason why Ecclesiastes is seldom read or preached on in modern churches. The Song of Songs (also known as the Song of Solomon) has been read, historically, by Christians, in two primary ways – as a text which concerns the love and sexual intimacy of human beings and as a text which uses the language of human love and intimacy to speak of something else – the relationship between Christ and the church. Christians have often felt that they must choose between these options – that a text about human love and sexual intimacy could not be at the same time a spiritual text. It is one of the challenges of reading the Song to explore how far this is necessarily true and how far Christian readers have been influenced in their reading more by Platonism and Gnosticism than by biblical thinking about the nature of the human being and of human sexuality. Another challenge is to discover whether the Song is really one “song” at all, or simply a haphazard collection of shorter poems cast together because of their common theme of love; and still another is to gain clarity on what, precisely, is the connection between the Song and Solomon.” |

Archetypes and Repetition $12.99 Deepfield’s ambitious debut, Archetypes and Repetition, is the proverbial double-edged sword with its pluses held back at times by the very things that should move the quartet forward. Skidd Mills and Paul Ebersold certainly bring their reputation to the table but, like Phil Spector, their well-known “Wall of Sound” can also cloud a band’s abilities. “Get It,” as performed on this disc, sounds just like “44 Teeth,” when the two songs are completely different. It drops in so quickly that non-fans won’t be able to tell the difference between the two. Bob Ezrin knew how to pull those riffs out and let them rattle the speakers, but here the interesting guitar work of J. King and singer Baxter Teal III might as well be an outtake from Mills and Ebersold’s work on Saliva’s Survival of the Sickest. It is hard to distinguish the instruments with the quagmire of effects glossed over each title, a formula aimed at one audience, not many. Remember when there was the same exact guitar solo on a song on the New York Dolls’ 1973 debut and a song on Grand Funk’s We’re an American Band, also from 1973? Todd Rundgren was the producer on both, but at least all he did was clone a guitar sound/solo, not an entire group. A tremendous piece like “Fall Apart” gets shredded in this hollow sonic cavern. Now perhaps that is commercial for 2007 and maybe it will strike a chord with the kids tuned in to this high-end treble-heavy morass, but the distinctiveness found in classic rock/pop songs like “Gimme Shelter,” the Beatles’ “Revolution,” and the obvious prototype for this group, Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” is missing in action. Oh for the days when a Clive Davis would let a bunch of name producers work on a Whitney Houston debut, garnering superb results. Butch Vig could have done wonders with “Into the Flood,” the imagery straight out of the latest Harry Potter movie — “I wanna write your name into my flesh…” — and going retro with Todd Rundgren on a song … |

Biffy Clyro concert at Daytrotter Studio on 31 May 10 $0 It stands to reason that Simon Neil, the lead singer of arena and festival-rocking Scottish band Biffy Clyro would feel the need to write about mountains and the sea fairly often. They’re huge and they’re nearly impossible to put into any quantifiable package. Mountains are steep slopes of conquerable, rocky terrain that have their own adapted species of animals and very personable and specific climates. Any things that can forcibly rupture from the ground protrude to the heavens like a permanent thorn, as well as be snow-capped and majestic year-round, is something to behold. The same goes for the oceans, bodies of unfathomable depths, filled with mysterious and unknown beings all feeding on other mysterious and unknown beings to stay alive, just lurching and hunting. They stretch out from our limited shoreline or ship-assisted vision as far as our perception can go and then our sight ultimately ends, but that’s where the waters continue to expand. There’s no possible way to understand that magnitude – for the scientific man or the layman. Neil, fronting this burgeoning rock group that’s quickly on the road to stardom that could someday be on par with an act such as Muse or Kasabian, delivers in these mighty connections to his life and all of the things that happen in it to these unspeakably gargantuan elements that couldn’t be further from being manmade. He sings about being a mountain and being a sea on the song “Mountains,” from the group’s latest album, “Only Revolutions.” Elsewhere on it, he sings, “In control of the morning/In control of the sea,” on “Bubbles,” two very impossible abilities from anyone’s standing. And there’s much conversation on “Only Revolutions,” to suggest that there is much morality discomfort or a sort of dislodged understanding of where the good and the evil come from and also how they’re both processed or dealt with. Neil sings of the two biggest forces and merrymakers of good and evil – the man in the white with the halo and the man |

They sat around the hearth at night, telling of heroes and monsters, great battles fought, and fortunes made and lost. Do It! $18.98 Clinic chug along like a coal-burning engine churning out thick black smoke on Do It!, working further into their cryptically dour art-punk/psych/soul/folk niche. Granted, that’s a pretty specific niche, but as on their previous album, Visitations, it feels more like a groove than a rut. More than most bands, Clinic write songs in styles, and Do It! features most of their quintessential types: the excellent “Corpus Christi” is a menacing, whispery slow-burner like Walking with Thee’s “Come into Our Room” before it, with a singsong lilt that makes it all the creepier; “Emotions” is one of Clinic’s soulful ballads, this time boasting a thick fuzz bassline that runs through the song like a scratch; and “Shopping Bag” is this album’s version of the band’s noise-punk outbursts, now with a shrieking saxophone solo. While Do It! doesn’t abandon Clinic’s well-defined sound and approach, it does underscore how they innovate within their self-imposed limitations, even if they don’t make radical changes. Almost suffocating distortion is one of Do It!’s main motifs, along with songs that swing from mood to mood rapidly. “Memories” uses both, shifting from heavy, ugly, deeply acidic psych-garage riffs to melancholy organs and autoharps as Ade Blackburn intones “Memories are all you own” (though it sounds more like he’s singing “Memories are all you’re on,” comparing thoughts to drugs ? la the Electric Prunes’ “I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night”). “Free Not Free” is nearly as trippy, jumping between brash riffs and mellow flutes while setting lyrics like “when the hoax is in the mirror” to one of the album’s prettiest melodies. All of this is to say that despite Do It!’s direct name, Clinic are as elliptical as ever. They’re rarely better than when they’re telling someone off, even if they do it so cryptically that the feeling is the only thing that translates. “High Coin” sounds like the perfect soundtrack to skewering a voodoo doll, its sinister organ… |

Forevermore $70.99 Three years ago, Whitesnake released Good to Be Bad, a comeback album that reached the U.K.? s Top Five. It walked the line between their own brand of U.K. hard rock and ? 80s glam metal. On Forevermore, frontman David Coverdale polishes the production — a tad — focuses the guitars more, and successfully fuses Whitesnake’s various eras, and succeeds in spades. There is a new rhythm section with drummer Brian Tichy and bassist Michael Devlin. Forevermore commences with ? Steal Your Heart Away,? an old-school, nasty slide guitar workout with a harmonica solo, that revs into a full-blown blues-rocker with a killer chorus. Guitarists Doug Aldrich and Reb Beach shine on the instrumental bridge. The album’s first single, “Love Will Set You Free,” is top-notch Whitesnake that nods back to the early years while grounding itself in the present. “All Out of Luck” and “Tell Me How” measure up in the same way. “I Need You (Shine a Light)” is an enormous surprise; its hook is so infectious it sounds like Coverdale’s been listening to Cheap Trick’s earliest records. The acoustic midtempo ballad “One of These Days” carries a trace of country in its melody, hearkening back to the Restless Heart era. Coverdale reveals he’s more than competent to write a fine, lyrically savvy love song, when he? s not thinking with his dick. “Fare Thee Well,” another acoustic number, showcases Coverdale at his most intimate. “Whipping Boy Blues? is a dirty slide rocker that reconciles both sides of the band. “My Evil Ways,” with its calamitous drum intro, is punishing; Coverdale pulls out all the stops to deliver his finest vocal performance on the set. The album’s true highlight, however, is in the closing title track. Over seven minutes, it begins as an acoustic number before morphing into a stellar Whitesnake power ballad. After a two-and-a-half minute acoustic guitar/vocal intro, the band enters with a “Kashmir”-like chord sequence; they keep it slow but increase t… |

How to Write Songs on Keyboards (Book/CD) $21.84 This book helps both keyboard and guitar players to find and develop interesting chords and chord sequences on a keyboard, and then use them to write their own songs. Rather than trying to teach intricate pieces of music, the book breaks things down into a simpler style and concentrates on basic chords and ideas, starting with a simple three-chord song and gradually adding more complex structures. A visual system that virtually eliminates the use of standard music notation allows guitarists who are used to using guitar tablature to feel totally at home. Songwriting issues are also analyzed, including key changes and writing songs in minor keys. The straightforward style of this book will have musicians writing on a keyboard with ease even if they never have before. |
