If you are a drummer, then you know that some thought is required in selecting the right drum sticks. All drum sticks are not created equal!

The general classification of drum sticks down under a series of numbers and letters, such as 5A, 7A, 2B etc. The different sizes and weights available allow for different playing styles and musical preference. The number associated with a full stick, the lower number having larger left circle and vice page book. The letters are selected to match the style of game. A 'S' stands for 'street', so often has the option of marching bands. 'B' sticks are designed for the use of 'bands' like symphonic or brass bands and the 'A', strange as it is, standing for the 'orchestral' sticks increasingly popular in rock and jazz artists. Let's take a look at 2B for example, weight of a stick which is most loved by rock and R & B musicians, as they need a lot of volume when playing. On the other side of 7A is the preferred choice for jazz and sounds less force sound is needed.

Another option is you have to do when buying drum sticks is whether to go for wood or nylon tips. The standard tip wood creates a softer sound as opposed to nylon tip that gives off a sharper sound, especially when used in cymbals. Nylon tip can snap off under the hard wood effect while sticks can stick and break.

In recent years, musicians have been experimenting with more and more with special design aimed at a better grip grip or longer life such as rubber sticks, which must be impossible to break but that cost little more.

So what are the key things to look for when buy drum sticks?

You can start with selecting the type of wood. The most common risk used for the drum sticks are maple, hickory and oak. Maple is the lightest of the three and therefore the most flexible, making it a great option beginners. Hickory is the all-around and most popular choice, it absorbs energy efficient and still flexible even a little weight to maple. Oak sticks have a longer lifespan that they are denser compared to other woods, but for same reason, they have a good reputation of giving off too many vibrations.

To get the correct size, you should think about what type of band you are playing in 5B and 2B sticks will take the most abuse and are good at marching bands and heavy metal groups. Therefore, a 7A or 5A is the best option for lighter playing, like jazz.

If you are prone to sweaty hands, try to avoid varnished sticks as you could end up losing your grip and sticks flying out left, right and center. The look and feel of the lacquer is more desirable to most, but at the risk of discontinuing play, it is better to go without. There are also sticks available with extra rubber gripping for those who are very conscious of losing their hold.

Try sticks to the store, they are not ugly. If a stick is not straight you are under the risk of making an ugly sound and they are also more prone to fog. Roll them on a scale, it should be smooth and the tip should remain level.

Most importantly, a stick should feel as an extension of you. Experiment with different types until you have an optimal level of comfort and the sound you're looking for.

confused between the sound and classic !!!!!!?

Hey guys, im very much confused about playing guitars, i hav a steel string guitar sound and I want to play lead, rock, pop, jazz, fingerstyles, also blues and rhythm guitar for my entertainment as well as the public, but i donno if sound steel string will b better or nylon string classical guitar for all styles I mentioned? I approached a teacher told me to go wid it classic and also one bd base for me but im not sure If the disease is b it or not .. Please help me if I can answer all my questions …. thanks a lot

That depends a lot on what kind of music you want to play. Most of the sounds of guitar music you hear on the radio are steel strings. That's the bright, sustaining tone musician most associated "sounds" guitar. Nylon strings provide a quieter, mellower tone. Often it is used for playing classical, although it is used in popular music very successful. (Think of Clapton's "Tears In Heaven" – the second, lead guitar is a nylon string.) Many people will tell you that a nylon string guitar is easier to learn at. It is true, but if you go to a classical guitar, with wider and shorter neck fretboard, you can find some problems transitioning to standard sound narrow fretboard.

 Chamber Music Society

Chamber Music Society

$18.98

As evidenced by her self-titled 2008 debut, Esperanza Spalding is a quadruple threat as composer, bassist, singer, and producer. That album spent an astonishing 70 weeks on Billboard’s contemporary jazz chart, and was the best-selling album by a new artist internationally for that calendar year. Given its critical and commercial success, a follow-up can exert so much pressure internally and externally, that an artist loses her/his focus and the end result is less than stellar. Not so with Chamber Music Society. Spalding has assembled an intriguing collection of tunes, is accompanied by stellar backing musicians — drummer Terri Lynne Carrington, pianist Leonardo Genovese, and percussionist Quintino Cinalli with a pair of string players — and guests that reveal her exquisite taste in both compositions and arrangements (the latter with intermittent help from Gil Goldstein). The album opens with a Spalding composition to illustrate William Blake’s poem “Little Fly”; her vocal is understated yet fully articulate. She is backed only by her bass and a graceful, small, unintrusive string section. “Winter Sun” is a standout with its fingerpopping breaks and a melodic nu-soul vocal that touches on scat with astute syncopation, and features taut, imaginative bass and piano solos. It walks the line between modern jazz and adult contemporary R&B . On Esperanza, she covered Milton Nascimento’s “Ponta de Areia.” Here, she ups the ante by duetting with the Brazilian artist on her own “Apple Blossom,” backed by strings and Richard Vogt’s nylon-string guitar. Nascimento’s trademark baritone is allowed considerable improvisational freedom that features his otherworldly falsetto. Her reading of Antonio Carlos Jobim’s “Inutil Paisagem” almost forgoes samba entirely in favor of a more classically disciplined duet vocal arrangement, as Spalding’s voice and bass are accompanied only by Gretchen Parlato’s divine vocal. Parlato also appears with wordless singing on “Knowledge…

John Pearse Strings Rosewood Sarod Picks - Bag of 10

John Pearse Strings Rosewood Sarod Picks – Bag of 10

$21

Traditional musicians in Northern India originally fashioned picks from coconut shell to play the Sarod, a multi-stringed fretless relative of the sitar and the rebab. In later years, the picks have been reduced in size and many players of the modern sarod have abandoned the coconut picks in favor of a new, more compact, pick made from rosewood. European and American musicians traveling in India in the sixties brought these unique picks back with them and soon guitarists were discovering that they made superb picks for jazz! The tone that they produced was full and rich and immeasurably stronger than that produced by a celluloid, nylon or even a tortoise-shell pick. The exciting new Sarod Picks from John Pearse are handmade in India by craftsmen who are expert in the fashioning of exotic woods. One side has a rounded depression for your thumb while the other has a curve just perfect for your index finger to hold the pick snugly and securely. They are made for Right-Handed Players. Just hold one of the these painstakingly carved picks in your hand and hear for yourself the magic that has been concealed within your guitar.
