Vocal Training Lessons For Every Type Of Singer

If you want to be better in singing we may have what you have been looking for. Our modules are easy to understand and do. Of course this method gives you a chance to learn at home with professional help and advice. To Sing Gospel Songs, you cannot just enhance your voice but at the same time, you will define your voice type.

Standing still in one place singing musical scales was very uninteresting, which is the main reason the vocal teaching changed over the years. It was discovered that most if not all singers would just love to practice with songs that they liked, making the training more enjoyable. It is now more common to hear people practicing their vocals by singing songs with the styles that they really love to sing instead of climbing up and down the scales. In Learning How to Sing and Play guitar, you are not just enhancing your voice but at the same time learning more than singing.

Focusing yourself on the things that you need is one thing that needs to be done once you have discovered what you sound like. You then start setting some goals that you want to achieve for yourself Practice serves as a preparation to any types of events or occasions. It is highly recommended to have plenty of practice to improve the vocals if you want to be as good as the professional singers. The range of your vocals is one of the factors that you must learn to practice on. You would have to continue on working on it until you see some improvement.

The belly is the source of a voice's power when singing; the power does not come from the lungs, mouth or stomach. Bringing down the musical notes into your belly will absolutely give you a different feel. It will make you produce a good quality of music, and a good quality of music can be achieved with plenty of constant practice. Some good advice from people who have struggled towards getting to the pedestal is something you may want to take if you really are into learning how to properly sing. Good posture is something that needs to be observed when singing so that the air can circulate well in your body and the sound that you produce will be as powerful as you want it to be. It is good to know that persons with the right kind of good posture are the ones who are usually successful in their singing careers. Never allow yourself to slouch when singing; it is highly recommended that you stand up straight as it will help the circulation of air in your lungs down to the diaphragm.

One of the common faults when people sing is their incorrect breathing pattern. To carry musical notes when singing, we should provide our body with sufficient air it is through deep breathing. It is not advisable to sing from the head to lower the risk of damaging our vocals.

When you practice, avoid putting stress on the delicate tissues of your throat. The sound you produce should be coming from your diaphragm and not from any other parts of the body. In this way, you will be confident that the sound coming from your vocals is of good quality.

Practicing each and every day is a must if you want to improve your vocals. Musical notes differ in scales, to start off, choose only musical notes that you feel comfortable with. After that, work your way up and down the scales. Vocal training can also be fun if you are practicing with a familiar song.

Improving your vocals for singing is not hard, all you need is get your vocal voice training together and exert plenty of effort in exercising and practicing. Learning to Sing Higher can be easy with singing lessons and voice lessons.

Retain The Services Of Swing Bands As Well As Throw Memorable Themed Gatherings

This year's office anniversary celebration is coming up in a few weeks, and everyone at work is buzzed. People are still discussing previous year's masquerade ball which was an unexpected hit--it's not every day that you locate an entire office gamely decked out in costumes featuring every fathomable thought that may be interpreted directly into dress-up garments. There have been fantasy characters, well-known movie stars, transforming automobiles, and even Facebook statuses (how's that for creativeness?). Fellow workers praised each other for costume ideas, there was great food and drinks, and the chosen Disk jockey spun some pretty good music.

With this year's get together, you're given the job of coming up with the style as well as the entertainment. Since styled functions seem to bode nicely with your co-workers, you suggest a 1930s swing era gathering and everybody agrees. How can you go about finding the right period features on your celebration? With a 1930s design, your absolute top priority is always to obtain the ideal swing bands to play the music which outlined the particular era-and it needs to be flawlessly played live.

A professional swing band might be chosen for various events for example weddings, distinct get-togethers, and also corporate and business events like your office get together. Generally, the 5- to 7-piece band can be hired pertaining to events where grooving is a vital component, whilst smaller sized functions such as dinners as well as parties would do well with a smaller band lineup actively playing lighter music. Bands will generally feature the skilled usage of guitars, a double bass, keyboarda, percussion as well as a horn section, such as the sax, trumpet, as well as trombone.

The party will get started with relaxed jazz standards and Rat Pack-style tunes-think of tracks such as "Fly Me to the Moon," "Lady Is a Tramp," and "Come Fly With Me" reminiscent of the unmistakable Frank Sinatra, or jazz favorites like "Let's Face the Music and Dance," "Blue Moon," and "The Way You Look Tonight." Of course, nothing says swing such as the traditional tunes "In the Mood," "Moondance," and "Swinging Down the Lane" to have partygoers excitedly pushing onto the dance floor. Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Artie Shaw, Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald-the most notable vocalists and musicians could all come to life with the ability and also expertise of the professional jazz band which understands just how to get folks off their seats and also dancing all night long.

The 1930s was famous for vibrant big band music, swing dancing, as well as sleek Art Deco designs. Ensure that you get all partygoers to find the right garb-women can put on long, streaming dresses, fur stoles, pearl necklaces, and berets, while men would likely seem extraordinarily polished in double-breasted suits, vests, and fedoras. Enhance the location with movie prints coming from that decade, as well as serve cocktails including martinis, whiskey sours, and also mint juleps - the celebrated drinks of that time period.

Your themed celebration is sure to become successful with the help of a fantastic jazz band. Guests-even those confessing to having two left feet-will find it hard to resist the call of a stomping jive number to the dance floor. The band's repertoire is also very likely to incorporate classic pop, soul, funk, and even Latin melodies, making sure that any generation would certainly find something to gladly dance to. Live music infuses soul-and swing-into just about any special event, and your colleagues can't stop discussing the party for years.

Weather Report Mr Lost Jazz Music CD Review

I can describe the latest release from Jazz super group Weather Report for you with just one word … Outstanding!

It is a rare day indeed that I get a CD from an artist that I truthfully say does not have a bad track in the bunch. I am happy to announce that's exactly what I should say about this one. There just is NOT a bad one in the bunch. No fillers here at all.

One the refreshingly nice things about this CD is the way that all the participating artists seem to be really enjoying themselves. Combine that with the overall presentation and you've got one of Weather Report most impressive releases ever.

Mr lost overall is excellent from beginning to end. One of those CDs that after a few listening to the songs are just etched into your memory. A must have for Jazz fans. Really spectacular from beginning to end.

While the entire CD is outstanding some of my favorites are track 2 – River People, track 3 – Young and Fine, and track 8 – And Then

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [... as the "proud On Repeat"] is track 1 – The purpose of The Woman In The feathered hat. Outstanding!

 A Thousand Days

A Thousand Days

$16.98

Mitchell Froom is best known as a sideman and a collaborator, having produced albums for dozens of artists (from industry heavyweights like Paul McCartney to cult heroes such as American Music Club) and sat in on many more. When Froom has stepped forward as a performer, he’s often done so while sharing the stage with others, such as his Latin Playboys material, written and recorded in collaboration with David Hidalgo from Los Lobos, and his 1998 album Dopamine, in which each tune was created in tandem with another artist. A Thousand Days is the first album in which Froom has presented what is thoroughly and clearly his own musical vision, and it may or may not surprise folks to know that all by his lonesome he doesn’t seem to have much to say. Instead of assembling the layers of tape-loop keyboards and vintage electronics that have given his productions their trademark personality, A Thousand Days features just Froom at an acoustic piano performing 14 simple original pieces, and stripped of the sound that is his hallmark, A Thousand Days offers you a man noodling at a keyboard, performing pleasant but aimless melodies that seem stuck somewhere between smooth jazz stripped of its sense of musical challenge and new age without being quite so easy to ignore. These skeletal piano works are created with too much craft to be entirely dismissed, but they don’t have enough force in them to truly compel a listener for very long — A Thousand Days is lovely background music, but that’s about all there is to be said for it. Too bad he didn’t bring along some friends to give these sounds the body and soul they need. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Art Lande concert at Great American Music Hall on 13 May 76

Art Lande concert at Great American Music Hall on 13 May 76

$9.98

A native New Yorker (born February 5, 1947), Lande parlayed his classical studies and love of Bill Evans into a wholly unique piano voice. After studying at Williams College, he moved to San Francisco in 1969 and became something of a regional hero there through the ’70s. He recorded with saxophonist Jan Garbarek and trumpeter Ted Curson in 1973 before forming the Rubisa Patrol quartet with Mark Isham on trumpet, Bill Douglass on bass, and Glenn Cronkhite (later replaced by Kurt Wortmann) on drums. Their self-titled debut was released in 1976 on the ECM label. They followed with 1977′s Desert Marauders on ECM and over the next few years garnered something of a cult following in both Europe and the United States. After disbanding the Rubisa Patrol, Lande taught at The Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle in 1983 and the following year moved to Switzerland, where he taught for three years at a jazz school in St. Gallen. He returned to the States in 1987 and began teaching at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, where he still resides. Lande collaborated through the ’80s and ’90s with such creative artists as trumpeters Mark Isham and Ron Miles, multi-reed player Paul McCandless, saxophonist Fred Hess, guitarist Jerry Hahn and New Age pioneer George Winston. From 1988-1990 he collaborated on a children’s series for Windham Hill, creating music for 2 Bad Mice (with narration by Meryl Streep), 3 Little Pigs and 3 Billy Goat’s Gruff (with narration by Holly Hunter) and Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Little Red Riding Hood (with narration by Meg Ryan). He has also recorded several distinctive solo piano albums, including 1996′s Friday the Thirteenth, featuring 13 Thelonious Monk compositions. Lande continues to record as a leader and as a sideman. In 2005, he appeared on guitarist Nguyen Le’s Walking on the Tiger’s Tail and in 2010 on saxophonist Bruce Williamson’s Standard Transmission, a freewheeling project full of clever extrapolations on familiar pop and ja

 Cosimo Matassa Story

Cosimo Matassa Story

$25.98

Although he’s far from a household name, it’s hard to imagine the existence of New Orleans R&B without Cosimo Matassa. As owner and engineer at J&M Studios, housed in a reworked grocery store on Rampart Street, Matassa saw the birth of R&B, rock & roll, and soul pass through his doors between 1945 and 1956, and he was responsible for the early hits of Fats Domino, Little Richard, and many others during his tenure there. This amazing four-disc, 120-track box tells that story, and it is filled with marvelous recordings that burst with energy and vitality. There’s so much to be astounded at here, and not just the steady rhythmic warmth of the Fats Domino sides or the ferocious energy that crackles from each and every Little Richard track (“Tutti Frutti,” “Long Tall Sally,” “Rip It Up,” “Ready Teddy,” “The Girl Can’t Help It,” “Heebie Jeebies”). There’s also Smiley Lewis’ piano and horn rendition of “Don’t Jive Me” (not to mention his original version of “I Hear You Knocking”), Lloyd Price’s sturdy “Lawdy Miss Clawdy,” Dave Bartholomew’s wry treatise on barroom crime, “Who Drank My Beer While I Was in the Rear,” and Clarence Garlow’s easy rolling “New Bon Ton Roulay.” There’s Professor Longhair’s classic “Tipitina,” Sugar Boy & His Cane Cutters’ timeless “Jock-A-Mo,” the Hawks’ bright and infectious “It’s Too Late Now” and Wee Willie Wayne’s whistle and percussion gem, “Travelin’ Mood.” Then there’s Huey “Piano” Smith’s delightfully clanging and steamrolling “Everybody’s Whalin’,” Clarence “Frogman” Henry’s goofy and immortal “Ain’t Got No Home” and Earl King’s crisply rocking “You Can Fly High.” It all adds up to a truly impressive legacy, and again, it’s impossible to imagine New Orleans R&B without the hand of Cosimo Matassa upon it. Matassa eventually had three studios in New Orleans, including Jazz City Studio on Camp Street, as well as a record pressing plant called Superior Plastic, and the record label he started in the…

 Crescent City Bounce

Crescent City Bounce

$28.98

It’s difficult to imagine any place on earth that has given us more gutbucket piano players than New Orleans where seemingly every tonk and barrelhouse had a piano in the corner and a long line of musicians who knew exactly what to do with it. The city’s esteemed jazz history sometimes obscures its equally unique R&B pedigree, but as this wonderful four-disc, 119-track box set shows, New Orleans has had a long and unbroken blues and R&B piano tradition that reaches virtually unmodified through to modern players like Little Professor, Fats Domino, Eddie Bo, Lee Dorsey, Dr. John and countless others. Covering the years 1950 to 1956, Crescent City Bounce is a wall-to-wall delight, full of bounce and verve as it explores the underground emergence of R&B in the city. Among the highlights are the two-part (the two parts were somehow reversed on the original single and are here set correctly) “Stack-A-Lee” by Archibald (Leon T. Gross), Smilin’ Joe’s (also known as Pleasant Joe) wry “Living on Borrowed Time,” Roosevelt Sykes’ “You Can’t Be Lucky All the Time,” the easy and boozy “Got You on My Mind” by Tommy Ridgley, the sprung rhythms of “Mornin’ Train” by Blazer-Boy (George Stevenson), “Doing the Hambone” by a then 14-year-old James Booker (under the name Little Booker), and the sharp and impressive instrumental “Heavy Sugar” by Lloyd Lambert (Lawrence Cotton actually plays piano on this one, with Lambert on bass). It all adds up to a fun and informative romp through modern New Orleans R&B piano styles, and while a set like this has obvious archival value, it’ll also kick your party into high gear. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi

From Boppin Hillbilly to Red Hot Rockabilly

From Boppin Hillbilly to Red Hot Rockabilly

$25.98

This delightful and valuable set collects 120 tracks of vintage amped-up honky tonk and country boogie, beginning with releases from 1951 and stretching through to Elvis Presley’s Sun years and the rockabilly explosion of 1955, effectively sketching out how what Carl Perkins called “country music with a beat” evolved and shifted into the monster known as rock & roll. Most of these sides are quite rare and many have never been anthologized before, so this box is sure to delight collectors, but the four discs also have a natural flow to them that keeps things from being too academic and makes this release a natural for a long road trip. What’s apparent after only a few tracks is how much the blues was a part of hillbilly country, as was jazz via western swing, and the melting pot formation of popular American musical styles is demonstrated clearly here, even though few of these records were hits. Highlights include Forest Rye’s “Wild Cat Boogie,” Chuck Murphy’s barrel house piano romp “They Raided the Joint,” Charlie Adams’ loose and fun “Cattin’ Around,” Rudy Gaddis’ truly odd “Uranium Fever,” as well as more familiar sides like Elvis Presley’s “Mystery Train” and Johnny Cash’s “Hey Porter.” A wonderful collection that shows once again that no new musical style comes out of nowhere. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi

Gerry Mulligan concert at Philharmonic Hall on 03 Jul 73

Gerry Mulligan concert at Philharmonic Hall on 03 Jul 73

$4.98

In a program titled “A Jazz Salute to the American Song,” which had various artists paying tribute to Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Jimmy Van Heusen, Harold Arlen, George Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart, Fats Waller and Duke Ellington-Billy Strayhorn, baritone sax ace Gerry Mulligan paid tribute to Alec Wilder along with his piano playing colleague Marian McPartland. Accompanied by bassist Rusty Gilder and Erroll Hayward, they tackled material that would later appear on McPartland’s 1974 recording, Plays the Music of Alec Wilder, on her own Halcyon label. Opening on a lightly swinging note with an easy-going rendition of Wilder’s “It’s So Peace	ful in the Country,” the quartet then segues to the bouncy waltz-time number “While We’re Young,” which serves as a springboard for some of Mulligan’s most potent soloing of the concert. McPartland follows with a cascading solo in which she confidently navigates the myriad of changes with flow and swing. They conclude their all-too-brief July 3rd performance at Philharmonic Hall with Wilder’s most famous and most poignant piece, “I’ll Be Around,” which opens with a bass-bari duet between Gilder and Mulligan. McPartland enters the mellow piece with subtle comping alongside Haywood’s sublime brushwork. Mulligan’s robust bari tones carry this copasetic set while the ever-swinging McPartland provides the all-important harmonic glue to the proceedings. A regular figure at the Newport Jazz Festival since its inception in 1954, both as a leader and inveterate jammer in various all-star settings, baritone sax star Mulligan was a perennial poll-winner through the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. Born on April 6, 1927 in New York City, he revolutionized the awkward and unwieldy baritone saxophone with his light, airy tone combined with his uncanny speed and dexterity on the instrument. His family moved frequently during his childhood – first to Ohio, followed by stints in Illinois, New Jersey, Michigan and Pennsylvania. He broke into the mus

The warmth of Jim Brickman’s eloquent and heartfelt piano music is a perfect fit for the Christmas season, and his third holiday collection in ten years — following 1997′s The Gift and 2003′s Peace — offers a similarly engaging mix of piano solos, easily rhythmic instrumental ensemble pieces, and songs featuring well-known vocalists. On the instrumental side, the mix of warm and melodic Brickman originals (“Thanksgiving,” “Gathering,” “Bethlehem”) and his inimitable “Brickman-ization” of songs we all know, love, and can’t resist hearing him do (“Silent Night,” listed under its original title “Still Nacht,” “Deck the Halls,” “Auld Lang Zyne”) works brilliantly once again. The vocals are likewise inspiring, beginning with “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” sung by the pianist’s frequent collaborator Anne Cochran and featuring the breezy acoustic guitar of smooth jazz star Peter White. While the spiritually driven ballad “Coming Home for Christmas,” featuring former Lonestar lead singer Richie McDonald, was an instant classic focal track, the beautiful lullaby “My Angel (Christmas)” is more poignant for reasons beyond the emotional pull of its melody and lyrics — it was the late R&B artist Gerald LeVert’s last vocal recording. Brickman and LeVert — who both attended Shaker Heights High School in Cleveland — recorded it for the pianist’s 2006 album Escape. Brickman had hoped that they could rework the song with a Christmas lyric for this project, but LeVert passed away before that could happen. It’s a beautiful final testament by one of contemporary soul’s great artists — and a fittingly poignant inclusion on yet another seasonal gem from the wonderfully romantic realm of Brickman. ~ Jonathan Widran, Rovi

Rebecca Kilgore’s career has steadily climbed since she gained national exposure from her mid-’90s Arbors CD I Saw Stars, becoming a favorite of jazz parties and clubs around the U.S. For this engagement she joined forces with tenor saxophonist Harry Allen’s quartet for a salute to Billie Holiday and Lester Young, recorded during two nights of their booking at Feinstein’s at Loew’s Regency in August 2010, with pianist Rosanno Sportiello, bassist Joel Forbes (who is a member of her regular quartet), and drummer Chuck Riggs. Fortunately, this is not the kind of tribute where the artists are interested in merely duplicating the recordings of jazz greats that they are honoring; instead, they put their own stamp on the songs that Lady Day and Prez recorded, while keeping their swinging, intimate feeling. After a quick run through “Your Mother’s Son-in-Law” (an unremarkable piece that launched young Billie Holiday’s career as she debuted on disc with Benny Goodman), she gets into the meat of the singer’s discography with an effervescent setting of “Them There Eyes” and a lightly swinging “Foolin’ Myself,” in which Kilgore scats in unison with Allen’s robust tenor. There are two instrumental features for Allen, a hard-blowing “Tickle Toe” and a gritty, brisk interpretation of “I Want to Be Happy.” The Duke Ellington-Billy Strayhorn vehicle “I’m Checkin’ Out Go-om Bye” has nothing to do with Holiday or Young, but proves to be a potent closing number, with a strong chorus by Allen and two choruses of masterful stride piano by Sportiello. Too few of Rebecca Kilgore’s live performances have appeared on CD, and this rewarding disc will give jazz fans a better idea of her strengths in a club setting. ~ Ken Dryden, Rovi

The Mastersounds concert at Newport Jazz Festival on 03 Jul 59

$4.98

The West Coast counterpart to the Modern Jazz Quartet, the Mastersounds presented a cool, tastefully-arranged brand of jazz that combined the shimmering sound of vibraphone with piano, bass and drums. And while vibraphonist Buddy Montgomery may have been the Milt Jackson of the Mastersounds, his brother Monk brought a distinctly different quality to the band on Fender electric bassist than his MJQ counterpart, upright bassist Percy Heath. Rounded out by pianist Rich Crabtree and drummer Benny Barth, the Mastersounds had a three-year stint of popularity through six successful recordings on the Pacific Jazz/World Pacific label, beginning with 1957′s Jazz Showcase???Introducing the Mastersounds. In the span of about two years, Pacific Jazz would subsequently release The King and I: A Modern Jazz Interpretation by the Mastersounds, Kismet: An Interpretation by the Mastersounds (featuring a special guest appearance by brother Wes Montgomery on guitar) and Flower Drum Song: A Modern Jazz Interpretation by the Mastersounds. In spite of the fact that they were named they were named as the 1959 Down Beat Critic’s Poll for Best New Group, The Mastersounds ultimately disbanded in early 1960. They had a reunion in the studio later that year to record for the Fantasy label and the three Montgomery brothers also subsequently played together on a 1961 Riverside recording, Groove Yard. The Mastersounds opened their July 3rd set at the 1959 Newport Jazz Festival with “Golden Earrings,” a beguiling Ray Evans tune that became a smash hit in 1948 for singer Peggy Lee and was later covered in numerous instrumental versions by a variety of jazz artists. Barth’s supple brushwork on the kit sets a gentle tone while Crabtree comps lightly and politely around Buddy Montgomery’s delicate vibes playing. Monk, one of the pioneers of the electric bass guitar in jazz, walks persuasively on his instrument throughout this buoyantly swinging rendition, providing a surging momentum behind Crabtree’s

Following an eloquent and insightful introduction by George Wein, in which he notes the importance of such popular melodies as “I Can’t Get Started,” “All The Things You Are” and “I’ve Got Rhythm” in the annals of jazz, the MJQ takes the Philharmonic stage to extrapolate on Gershwin in their inimitable fashion. ‘Cool,’ ‘elegant’ and ‘genteel’ are all adjectives used to describe the MJQ’s pristine approach to jazz. The group brought that same refined sensibility to bear on Gershwin’s masterwork in its 1965 Atlantic recording of Porgy and Bess. The July 3rd set opens with a dramatic reading of “Summertime” which features a luminous contrapuntal blend between Lewis’ piano and Jackson’s vibes. Anchored by Percy Heath’s woody-toned bass and underscored by drummer Connie Kay’s subtle brushwork, this sublime version conveys the chamber-like aesthetic that the MJQ is so well known for while also delivering a deep blues feel in the potent solos by Lewis and Jackson. Next up is a syncopated run through the jaunty “There’s A Boat Dat’s Leavin’ Soon For New York,” featuring Jackson’s vibes carrying the buoyant melody on top of Kay’s shuffling beat and Heath’s walking bass lines. As they begin to extrapolate blithely on the theme midway through, Jackson opens up and wails. Lewis follows with a piano solo that is steeped in the church. Their deeply moving rendition of the sentimental ballad “I Loves You, Porgy” is a beautiful vehicle for Jackson’s expressive powers on the vibes. Lewis, the consummate accompanist, feeds him harmonic suggestions that nudge the great vibraphonis

$10.99

The sweet, gentle music of Cole Porter is collected in this tribute by some of jazz and pop’s classic artists. Highlights include Allen Farnham’s version of “I Get a Kick Out of You” and John Hicks’ rendition of “All of You.” The instrumental piano interpretations are well-suited to the material, yet some listeners may find themselves missing Porter’s honeyed voice. ~ Stacia Proefrock, Rovi

Thelonious Monk concert at Newport Jazz Festival on 03 Jul 59

Thelonious Monk concert at Newport Jazz Festival on 03 Jul 59

$9.98

One of the most original voices and idiosyncratic piano stylists in all of jazz, Thelonious Monk was also one of the genre’s most prolific composers. His staggering output includes tunes that have become classics – “‘Round Midnight,” “Blue Monk,” “Straight No Chaser,” “Epistrophy,” “Pannonica” and “Bemsha Swing,” to name just a few – and have been covered by innumerable artists over the past 50 years. For Monk’s July 3rd set at the 1959 Newport Jazz Festival, the enigmatic pianist-composer was accompanied by his longtime tenor saxophonist Charlie Rouse and the rarely recorded rhythm tandem of bassist Sam Jones and drummer Art Taylor. Together they swung sympathetically and brilliantly on Monk staples like “In Walked Bud” and “Well You Needn’t” along with a rousing “Rhythm-a-ning,” while also displaying uncommon sensitivity on the evocative ballad “Crepuscule with Nellie.” This stellar performance came just four months after Monk’s celebrated Town Hall concert in New York, which featured ambitious tentet renditions of his music arranged by Hall Overton. Monk opens his July 3rd set with a swinging rendition of “In Walked Bud,” a piece based on the chord progression of Irving Berlin’s “Blue Skies” and which Monk dedicated to his friend and fellow jazz pianist Bud Powell. Rouse stretches out heroically on his tenor solo here, blowing soulfully phrased, robust tones with unbridled conviction for several choruses while drummer Taylor spurs him on with his slickly interactive, boppish swing factor. Next up is the jaunty “Blue Monk,” one of Monk’s most frequently covered compositions in his expansive repertoire. Monk and Rouse play as one through the quirky-playful head before the tenor player launches into his relaxed solo, which he delivers with rare eloquence on top of Monk’s spiky comping. Taylor’s capacity for cutting up the beat in slick, inventive ways while maintaining a swinging pulse enlivens the track. Monk’s solo here is a prime case of “less is more.” “Crep
