Storytelling is an important way of teaching children, they absorb what they hear and see. This is it allows the process of refining lessons without realizing it. Humberto, the bookworm Hamster was a wonderful kid picture book that uses this very process. Calvani cleverly weaves an engaging story that conveys two important messages for children.

The first message, or lesson, is that reading can bring children into fantastic adventures, and it can open new and unknown World … It can ignite the imagination. The child can be a hero in a big white horse, with sword in hand, he could be a space traveler soaring through the universe, he can fight a fire-breathing dragon with the aid of his magical spear, he can travel to distant places, a child and can be anything done by the book.

The second message to Humberto, the bookworm Hamster is that of friendship. Through of outstanding story telling, Calvani shows the importance of balance. Humberto limit his whole world in reading until he was awakened to the fact that there are other things in life as important, sometimes even more important. Choice between saving her book during a flood, or his neighbors, Humberto choose of its neighbors. She realizes that with friends fills a part of his life that the book can not. And the best part is that he can share his books with his new friends.

Besides a wonderful story, the illustrations to Humberto, the bookworm Hamster is amazing. These are bright, bold and fanciful. They are sure to capture the attention and imagination of each child.

I am an advocate of reading to children learning, inspiration, and for sparking the imagination. As a grandparent I looked for books that not only tell an enjoyable story, but that also provide an uplifting lesson or moral element. I have two young grandchildren and it is definitely a book I am reading them.

The author, Mayra Calvani is a multi-genre professional author and reviewer who loves writing for children and adults. The illustrators, Kit Grady is a children's book illustrator and sometimes writer from Asheville, North Carolina.
