Brazilians love parties and festivals. The festival theme of change by region, month and season. Harvest festivals are particularly interesting and fun because they go back to the pagan solstice celebrations during the month of June. The festivals combine religion, agriculture, music, decorations, food and coffee to create unique experiences of the people holding the event.

The In £ o Joà £ o Festival in Salvador, Bahia, is officially celebrated on June 24 although the pre and post preparation of the celebrations last for many weeks. The origins of this festival traces back to Portugal. perhaps it was introduced in Brazil by the Portuguese Jesuit priest during colonial times. The festival still has a strong religious element. However, the church services and religious processions were accompanied by partying, dancing and singing a more secular nature.

To £ o Joà £ o Festival, like any other event yield, celebrates coffee. It is no surprise since coffee is the national drink of Brazil. During the festival it is impossible to walk around any commercial district with no sensation of hot and sweet fragrance of coffee all around. Vendors even sell cups of coffee on the road from the thermos flasks. Everyone welcomes you to their home or place of business a cup of "cafezinho."

To £ o Joà £ o Festival offers an opportunity to drink coffee and to accompany this delicious treats, desserts, sweets, fresh fruit or a more complete meal. "Feijoada," many, Brazil's national dish. The dish is actually a pork stew served with rice, the other staple foods cooked in many different ways, and a side dish called "Mendioca" (consisting of sausage, cut the mustard and fried bacon). To £ o Joà £ o Festival in Bahia offers many attractions for Locals and tourists alike. Salvador, the capital of the State of Bahia, is one of the oldest cities of the country. Founded in 1549, is located on the northeast coast of Brazil.

To £ o Joà £ o Festival features square dancing and "Forrà ³" music (pronounced "faw-Haw").

• It is a kind of country music from the Brazilian forest cow country made famous in 1940's by Luis Gonzaga, the singer, songwriter and accordion master.
• "Forrà ³" still is very popular. During festivals the sound of accordion, triangle and zabumba fill the air.
• The accordion is a box-shaped Musical Instrument sometimes referred to a as a Squeezebox played by compression and expansion of a bellows, which generates air flow across reeds. A keyboard controls which reeds receive air flow and this is how a man's music is made.
• Zabumba a marching band bass drum, wood or metal. Both sides of Zabumba has played in the same period, the top edge of a rod and the underside of a stick.
• The triangle is a small percussion instrument consisting of a metal bar bent in the shape of an open triangle, is generally considered to be an orchestral instrument, but an everyday tool for "music Forrà ³.
• The three instruments combined to make very unique musical sound, combined with the Brazilian rhythms, is quite unforgettable.
• During the festival, there are lots of bands composed of 3 members, for obvious reasons, each member of the band playing one of the "Forrà ³" instruments of music. This is actually a real explosion of musical sounds around town.

During the £ o Joà £ o Festival sound and crowds are literally non-stop 24 / 7. How people keep their energies? One way is by the famous Brazilian "cafezinhos" people consume almost non-stop.

Is it legal and within his power?

So I'm in the band at school and also in the marching band. You can be in regular school band and marching band, so it is not mandatory. well I got sick Friday and could not go to the football game where the band (marching) in performance. I is home sick with the swine flu. Well I got an e-mail saying that I need to write a three page typed paper on the international drum thingy to make up the missed performance and gain credit. I was mad. He said it is mandatory to do and if I did it will bring down my grade class. How are it just? They are related and therefore should not affect each other. But what I do? Is there some kind of law that says after school-things can affect your grades? Pleeeeez help me! I meen look like a gym teacher cutting a child's grade for not showing up on an irrelevant afterschool basketball game, so I dont see how this is fair.

If your school provides a Student Handbook at the beginning of the year or have one available on line, read it carefully. I am sure that the rules regarding extracurricular activities are spelled out there.
