How to find piano’s manufacture and model?

Hi All,

I know it may sound ridiculous but I can’t seem to find my piano’s manufacture nor model of it. I’ve got it off my neighbour who had it for ages yet ware unable to tell me anything about it. I went through several websites advising where to find piano serial number yet no instructions what so ever regarding make/model.
The metal plate in side the piano reads SILVER MEDAL INVENTIONS EXHIBITION ESTD 1842 followed by serial number . Does any one have a clue what does it mean? and where make and model can be found?

Alice $15.98 It’s been long time since Tom Waits recorded an album as saturated with tenderness as this one. The carny-barker noise merchant who has immersed himself in brokenness and reportage from life’s seamy, even hideous underbelly for decades has created, along with songwriting and life partner Kathleen Brennan, a love song cycle so moving and poetic that it’s almost unbearable to take in one sitting. Alice is alleged to be the “great lost Waits masterpiece.” Waits and Brennan collaborated with Robert Wilson on a stage production loosely based on Alice Liddell, the young girl who was the obsession and muse of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland books. The show ran in Europe for a time and the production’s 15 songs were left unrecorded until now. Alice forgoes the usual nightmare lyric sequences, warped, circus-like melodies, and sonic darknesses that have been part and parcel of Waits’ work since Swordfishtrombones. Instead, this song cycle is, for the most part, steeped in jazz ballads, old waltzes, European folk songs, theatrical love paeans, and music not so easily identified. The instrumentation is different, with the utilization of a small chamber orchestra (the violins are Stroh violins, instruments outfitted with a metal horn on the end for amplification purposes), marimbas, piano, organ, woodwinds, and reeds, and the complete absence of guitars. The set opens with the title track, a smoky jazz ballad that may echo Waits’ work from the 1970s, but is actually miles beyond it in scope. Here there is no purposely postured nuance or affectation of persona. The lyric is plaintive and full of pathos; it’s almost a suicide note set to the most romantic melodic invention lounge jazz is capable of. As Waits sings, “The only strings that hold me here/Are tangled up around the pier/And so a secret kiss/Brings madness with the bliss/And I will think of this/When I’m dead and in my grave/Set me adrift/I’m lost over there/But I must be insane/To go on skating on your name/A…

Billy Taylor concert at Carnegie Hall on 07 Jul 73 $9.98 One of nine solo pianists on a program dedicated to the legendary Art Tatum, Billy Taylor blends his classical background with his command of jazz vocabulary in this loving tribute to his one-time mentor. “I was Tatum’s prot??g?? for three or four years, traveled with him, stayed with him on the West Coast, where he lived,” Taylor tells the Carnegie Hall audience after a sparkling rendition of “Body and Soul,” a Tatum favorite that the blind piano virtuoso often opened his sets with. This Saturday evening concert on July 7, 1973 captures him at the peak of his pianistic powers. A stalwart on New York’s famed 52nd Street scene at the height of the bebop era, Taylor won the respect of fellow scenesters like Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Ben Webster, Stuff Smith and others with his solidly swinging accompaniment and dazzling soloistic abilities at the keyboard. Following in Tatum’s imposing footsteps, Taylor could summon up dazzling right-hand facility on single note runs that rivaled his mentor. French Connection $16.98 The title of this 2005 EMI release, French Connection, is somewhat confusing since it leads one to expect special linkages between the four French composers — Schmitt, Milhaud, Jolivet, and Emmanuel — and the Russian Shostakovich and the Brazilian Villa-Lobos. However, Shostakovich’s two Waltzes and Villa-Lobos’ Ch? ros No. 2 are so short and slight as to be dismissed from cross-cultural speculation; the remaining works make the issue of French connections all too obvious. This album, then, is just a grab bag of pieces for winds and piano, so varied in character, style, and techniques that it is better not to rationalize the program, but to note instead its salient points. Milhaud’s Sonata for flute, oboe, clarinet and piano, Op. 47, is the strongest selection — bracing in its dissonances, probing in tone, and adventurous in its explorations of polytonality and novel sonorities. Jolivet’s Sonatine for flute and clarinet and Emmanuel’s Sonate for flute, clarinet and piano, Op. 11, are the next most interesting compositions, for the former’s extended contrapuntal invention and the latter’s elegant repartee and Impressionist harmonies. Schmitt’s Sonatine en trio, Op. 85, is mildly charming for its neo-Baroque touches, yet it is the least ambitious of the disc’s main works. James Brown concert at Newport Jazz Festival on 06 Jul 69 $5 The jazz police had a field day with the 1969 Newport Jazz Festival, which marked George Wein’s blatant capitulation to the burgeoning rock market. While the usual names like Dave Brubeck, Art Blakey, Lee Morgan, Phil Woods, Charles Mingus and Anita O’Day were on hand to represent the jazz contingent, a whole host of arena rock bands were booked for the annual summer bash in Rhode Island. In its coverage that year, Down Beat ran the cover line: “Big Crowds, Bad Vibes.” And in his report on the festival, respected jazz writer Ira Gitler referred to the whole affair as “the Newport Jive Festival.” As he wrote: “George Wein started out as a jazz person but now seems to have become a festival producer rather than a jazz producer.” Gitler dismissed headliners like Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Invention (“a contemporary vaudeville show”) and Led Zeppelin (“a lead balloon”) as well as John Mayall, Ten Years After, Jethro Tull, Jeff Beck and Sly Stone. Gitler’s colleague Dan Morgenstern also had little use for the rock acts, though he was considerably kinder to James Brown. As he wrote: “This was the most professional presentation of the festival, running smoothly from start to finish.” Indeed, it was the James Brown Show, a classy production replete with opening act (the Dee Felice piano trio), polished choreography, comedic relief (in the form of Nipsey Russell) and a dynamic, tightly-executed set in which the Hardest Working Man in Show Business trotted out hit after hit. The James Brown Band warms up the stage with three instrumentals that highlight the tight two-guitar interplay of Jimmy Nolen’s agile, syncopated single-note lines and Alphonso “Country” Kellum’s steady rhythm playing along with the urgent, soulful blowing of tenor saxophonist Maceo Parker, Brown’s right-hand man since 1964. Larry Coryell concert at SUNY New Paltz on 17 Mar 73 $9.98 Years before the term jazz-rock fusion existed, American guitarist Larry Coryell was playing a pioneering role. As early as 1966, Coryell co-founded Free Spirits, an early jazz-rock band, before recording three seminal progressive jazz albums with Gary Burton. In 1969, prior to recording the first album under his own name, Coryell toured with Cream bassist Jack Bruce, Jimi Hendrix drummer Mitch Mitchell, as well as keyboardist Mike Mandel, combining the influences of rock into a jazz framework. By the early 1970′s, Coryell put together a remarkable band of his own including Harry Wilkinson on drums, Mervin Bronson on bass, Steve Marcus on soprano sax, and Mike Mandel on electric piano. During the next several years, these musicians developed a hybrid of jazz and rock, free of preconceptions. The results displayed plenty of virtuosity, but were also interspersed with enough of the fiery playing style of rock musicians to attract a younger audience not as comfortable with the overly intellectualized forms of jazz. Coryell’s group, known collectively as Foreplay, recorded several groundbreaking albums in the early 1970s, proving that these musicians had a gift for invention, some of it quirky, but nonetheless impressive from both a technical and musical standpoint. By 1973, a peak year of creativity in the jazz-rock fusion movement, thanks in no small part to the innovations of Miles Davis, Mahavishnu Orchestra and Weather Report, Coryell continued blazing his own path, free of formulaic limitations. Recording the final album with the Foreplay lineup, 1973′s “The Real Great Escape,” Coryell embraced jazz, rock, pop, electronics and he was even taking the questionable plunge of singing, a bold move to say the least. By the end of 1973, Coryell would revamp the band, only retaining the services of keyboardist Mike Mandel.
