Six Simple Steps For Writing A Personal Wedding Song To Your Wife

Step Six: Sing the Song to Your Wife and Frame the Lyrics

For “Song of Our Marriage,” I created even a photo album with photos of my wife in Lilac Park, in Disney World, together with her friends, and more in several sections. Every section of the album reflected the verse and refrain from the personal wedding song.

Caddyshack
In one of the most hilariously puerile movie moments, a stray Baby Ruth chocolate bar gets dropped into an outdoor swimming pool causing mass panic. Hardly the most welcome of pool accessories. Spoofing the 1975 Summer Blockbuster Jaws, this scene boomerangs back for an settling encore. When the pool is later drained, Bill Murray’s character Carl Spackler enjoys a nutty snack.

Lloyd Webber’s rhyming is also at its most diabolical: ‘Prove to me that you’re no fool, walk across my swimming pool’.
Anchorman
30 years later, Anchorman riffed on the same 70s machismo campiness. Will Ferrell’s hilarious Ron Burgundy holds pool parties to impress his contacts, displaying a complete lack of self-awareness. Endlessly quotable, it’s a celebration of all things party animal, not least because so many modern comedy frat-boys are on board. Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, Luke Wilson, Ben Stiller and Jack Black are all in the film, five members of the so called ‘frat pack’ of regular, top-grossing collaborators. The Hollywood pool party you could have with these guys – and Steve Carell and Seth Rogen, who co-star – would be a thing to behold.

Cake Cutting – Music can be very effective in highlighting this moment between you and partner. Many couples opt for something romantic, with popular choices including ‘Everything’ Michael Buble, ‘You Are The Sunshine Of My Life’ Stevie Wonder, and ‘Have I Told You Lately’ Van Morrison.
Insider Tip: Give the band plenty of notice if you want them to play your bridal waltz live. It will allow the singer to memorise the words, and the band to rehearse the song. No charts on the night – this goes for everybody!
Bridal Waltz – An expression of how you and your partner feel about one another, this is one of the most important moments of the day. Choose a song that you love and that means something to both of you. Remember, all eyes will be on the pair of you, so make sure you practice dancing to it before the day! Examples include ‘At Last’ Etta James, and’If I Ain’t Got You’ Alicia Keys.

Bouquet/Garter Toss – A fun part of the evening, and a chance for your friends to let fate decide who ties the knot next! Popular choices for Bouquet Toss are ‘Single Ladies’ by Beyonce or ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ by Cyndi Lauper, and you can’t go past ‘You Can Leave Your Hat On’ for the Garter Toss.
Insider Tip: The garter toss is becoming less and less popular due to the slight ‘tacky’ element of the groom disappearing under the bride’s dress to remove clothing with his teeth. It’s still very possible to do it with class (we’ve seen it done!), just be sure to keep in mind that Grandparent’s have surprisingly good memories.
Last Song of the Night – As the night draws to an end, you really want to make sure that you finish on a high. Choosing a fantastic song to close your wedding celebrations with will ensure that you leave your guests with an incredible last impression, not to mention wonderful lasting memories for you and your partner. When choosing your final song for the night, try and find something that is not only a great piece of music, but also means something to you and your guests. A party song that stimulates fond memories of when you and your new spouse first started dating is a great idea, and is guaranteed to get your friends rushing to the dancefloor.
Insider Tip: Always try and think of a high-energy track to finish on, especially if you have a band! You want your guests to be screaming for ‘one more’ as the lights are turned on…

Unlike High School Musical’s all-star cast, however, Hannah is just one girl — well, actually, two: even though it’s Miley Cyrus who gives a face and a voice to Hannah Montana’s schoolgirl-by-day, pop star-by-night adventures, she’s in danger of being overshadowed by the role she plays. The first Hannah Montana soundtrack tried to differentiate Hannah from the young lady responsible for her existence by including a handful of tracks credited to Miley Cyrus; Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus goes one better and gives Cyrus and her alter ego one disc each. Hannah still gets top billing, however, and the first disc feels like the second volume of almost any soundtrack — it’s not bad, but it’s also not as interesting as what came before it. “Nobody’s Perfect” and “Make Some Noise” sound like less-inspired versions of the shiny, synth-driven pop and strummy acoustic ballads that made the first Hannah Montana soundtrack a hit. However, there are some songs that don’t feel like also-rans, most of which dig deeper into Hannah’s new wave influences: “We Got the Party”‘s fizzy keyboards and chugging guitars sound a lot like Kim Wilde’s “Kids in America”; “Life’s What You Make It” sets bright, cheerleadery vocals to a riff that sounds like a reconfigured “My Sharona”; and “Rock Star”‘s glittery pop fantasy recalls Avril Lavigne’s new wave pastiche without any of the faux-punk attitude. “Old Blue Jeans” is another standout, a danceable track that shows that this volume of the Hannah Montana soundtracks actually does groove-oriented songs better than the original album did. Moments like these balance out the watered-down and downright schmaltzy songs, such as “One in a Million,” a ballad with a twinkly, earnest piano melody that sounds like equal parts of Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” and Bruce Hornsby’s “That’s Just the Way… |

USED: Caribbean Party $7.99 While Putumayo has had a habit of putting out somewhat more “commercial” releases of world music, and perhaps not so much of the actual “traditional” works, catering to the Starbucks crowd, this album, Caribbean Party, is actually a decent compilation of various dance music from the islands. Martiniquean banjo player Kali plunges through the history of zouk music in “L’Histoire de Zouk.” Haitian compas band Tabou Combo contributes the faster “Chale Lanmou.” Bago adds in a decidedly Latin piano sound to his zouk on “Serjyo.” Krosfyah puts out the rocksteady sound on “Pump Me Up,” and fellow Barbados residents Coalishun contribute smooth soca on “Ice Cream.” Legendary Wailer Bunny Wailer puts in a slick cover of Rastaman Vibration hit “Roots, Rock Reggae.” Eric Virgal provides an effect-laden version of zouk on “Pa Fe Mwen la Pen,” and French Antillean Patsy Geremy sings her way through a higher-paced “Chayew Ale.” Former Malavoi member Ralph Thamar brings out “Dokte,” which sounds like a mix of zouk and Cuban music. Finally, from Montserrat, Arrow finishes the album off with a rousing soca anthem of “Don’t Touch My Tempo” at a quick pace that disagrees with his own lyrics (“this is my tempo, nice and slow”). The main highlights on the album are many. Bunny Wailer’s cover is wonderful; though Bob Marley’s version (with Wailer, of course) may be a bit superior, this one’s still good. Arrow’s work is one of the best beefed-up soca (soul/calypso) songs you’ll ever hear, and the works by Coalishun and Krosfyah are both great examples of Martiniquean zouk music. Though Putumayo might not always be looking for the best traditional mix, this album has hit after hit of zouk. The only real problem with this compilation is the noticeable absence of anything from Jamaica outside of Bunny Wailer, especially dancehall and ragga styles. USED: Separation Sunday $7.99 The Hold Steady’s Almost Killed Me is their hands-down masterpiece. A swirling maelstrom of intense, hilarious, and breathtaking rock & roll, it should have been the album that knocked everything else into a cocked hat in 2004. Of course, it was mostly ignored outside the homes of a handful of indie snobs and adventurous punks, but it’s there, it’s amazing, and most likely the band will never be able to top it. Separation Sunday comes pretty damn close, though. It is a much darker record, revolving around drug casualties, broken lives, a hoodrat fixation, spiritual and physical dissipation, and general despair, and there aren’t as many easy laughs this time out — but instead the listener gets lots of head-shaking wonderment at Craig Finn’s genius lyrics and voice. His gruff, in-your-ear vocals negotiate the twisting torrent of words like a world-class skater kid. He is insanely literate and insanely insistent: he’s like the guy who calls at 2:30 a.m. in a frenzy to holler about his latest disaster of the heart, the bar-stool poet with a religious obsession, or the guy who corners you at a party and just won’t shut up about how Boston are the missing link between the Beatles and Derrick May — only you don’t mind because he is strangely brilliant. He is also just about the best rock & roll frontman since Bob Pollard. In fact, the group sounds a bit like Guided By Voices at times, only a Guided By Voices that want to kick your sorry can up and down the length of the bar. Or maybe a GBV that worship Springsteen instead of the Who. Whipping up a classic rock-inspired frenzy of monitor-straddling guitar riffs, dual harmony leads, E Street piano flourishes, and galloping horns, the band behind Finn sounds like nothing less than Jim Steinman’s dream group. You could talk about great individual songs (the epic “How a Resurrection Really Feels,” the piledriving album opener “Hornets! Hornets!,” the weird and almost funky “Charlemagne in Sweatpants”), but the streng… |
