2000 Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony $95.59 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Opening Ceremony of the 2000 Summer Olympics was described by IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch as the most beautiful ceremony the world has ever seen. Held on the evening of Friday 15 September 2000, the Opening Ceremony represented everything Australian, from sea creatures and flora/fauna to lawn mowers and other Australian cultural icons. The Opening Ceremony had a cast of 12,687 people who took part in the ceremony. Consistent with normal major production management together with coordination of the ceremony with over 12,000 performers, the Sydney Symphony mimed the music on the night. This was to insure against the forecast rain and windy conditions. The music was prerecorded in the preceding weeks under studio conditions ensuring the flawless quality of the music broadcast around the world on this night. Thanksgiving Ceremony $11.2 When we think about Thanksgiving we contemplate history, the autumn harvest, and, of course, eating turkey and watching football. But most of all, we think about family, friends, and the bounty of our country. Edward Bleier’s The Thanksgiving Ceremony introduces a brand-new tradition for the Thanksgiving table, offering a wonderful way for all Americans to give thanks and rejoice in the sense of togetherness and community this special holiday brings. The heart of the book is a participatory ceremony designed to be read aloud around the table. It recounts the story of the early settlers and the challenges they, and all subsequent immigrant generations, faced. The ceremony provides roles for guests of all ages and takes about twenty minutes. There is also a brief history of Thanksgiving, as well as a wide array of poems, hymns, songs, prayers, and readings that enable families to create and customize their own ceremony, including pieces by Maya Angelou, Irving Berlin, Woodie Guthrie, and Emily Dickinson. As William Safire writes in his foreword, Getting together for a grand dinner party may be glorious fun, but a holiday should have a focus–one that reminds us why we celebrate it. This long-overdue book offers that focus in a short, elegant format that any gathering of family and friends can participate in, and enjoy, for many years to come. |

Coffee Ceremony $68.51 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Coffee ceremony is one of the most recognizable parts of Eritrean and Ethiopian culture. Coffee is offered when visiting friends, during festivities, or as a daily staple of life. If coffee is politely declined then most likely tea (shai) will be served. The coffee is brewed by first roasting the green coffee beans over hot coals in a brazier. Once the beans are roasted each participant is given an opportunity to sample the aromatic smoke by wafting it towards them. This is followed by the grinding of the beans, traditionally in a wooden mortar and pestle. The coffee grounds are then put into a special vessel and boiled. The boiling pot (jebena) is usually made of pottery and has a spherical base, a neck and pouring spout and a handle where the neck connects with the base. When the coffee boils up through the neck it is poured in and out of another container to cool it, and then is put back into the boiling pot until it happens again. To pour the coffee from the boiling pot, a filter made from horsehair or other material is placed in the spout of the boiling pot to prevent the grounds from escaping. The Roofing Ceremony the Silver Lake $31.14 The Roofing Ceremony is a powerful, ultimately hopeful short novel that will revise the narrow view of August Strindberg as merely a misogynist and the gloomiest of Scandinavian writers. This novel has an inwardness, irreducibly and complexly human, that looks back to Tolstoys The Death of Ivan Ilyich and forward to Samuel Becketts Krapps Last Tape.Published in Sweden in 1906 and never before translated into English, The Roofing Ceremony (Taklagsol) anticipates in its turbulent intensity the chamber plays Strindberg was soon to write. It is about a dying man, once an explorer but now a museum curator, who reviews his tumultuous life aloud as he drifts in and out of a morphineinduced sleep. Sometimes fragmentary, sometimes episodic, this impressionistic monologue builds up a vivid and nuanced portrait of the curator and his estranged wife, chronicling passionately but also humorously the descent of their marriage from island idyll into bitter comedy into tragic estrangement. Strindberg anticipated in this work the modern psychological novel and the technique of streamofconsciousness.A curious, brief narrative Strindberg meant to incorporate into The Roofing Ceremony but never did is also included in this book, as well as a story called The Silver Lake written in 1898, which also appears in English for the first time. A museum curator, summering on a Baltic island, seeks out a forbidden lake and shares its enchantment with his wife and children. But his marriage is doomed, and when he returns to the lake alone, its mystery turns sinister. Author: Strindberg, August/ Paul, David Mel/ Paul, Margareta Series Title: Modern Scandinavian Literature in Translation Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 128 Publication Date: 2000/12/01 Language: English Dimensions: 8.00 x 5.00 x 0.30 inches |

On a Mission: Mamadous Wedding and My Naming Ceremony $26.73 Born and reared in Iowa, author Jane Banks McIntosh had always felt a need to connect with her African roots. She made a pilgrimage to Senegal and The Gambia, where she formed a powerful bond with some of her African relatives. After returning to America, she was invited to attend a wedding in Dakar, Senegal. Bursting with excitement, Jane accepted without hesitation and began making plans to attend that special event. Her adventures continued when she witnessed one kind of corruption in that part of Africa as she crossed the overland border to reunite with her newfound family in The Gambia. But an unexpected visit to a village in the bush provided her an opportunity to interview the village chief and to see the other side of this magnificent country and meet some of its people. Five years later, Janes experiences came full circle when she was bestowed the African name Fatou Ndoye at a ceremony held in her honor in Dakar. Rich with the beauty of the African landscape and her people, On a Mission: Mamadous Wedding and My Naming Ceremony artfully captures this womans quest to connect with her ancestry.
