Choosing An Electric Guitar: Things To Consider
Whether you are just learning to play guitar, play in a band or in your room, your sound will be important to you. The type of playing you do will vary what you choose to play with and there are many models out there to choose from. Rocking out in style will no doubt be of the utmost importance so if you are looking to buy a new guitar, you should take some points into consideration and investigate which option you think is best for you. Let’s take a look at electric guitars and what you should know.
What electric guitars have to offer.
If you play with an electric guitar, you will enjoy playing with ease. They are easier to play because the guitar strings are usually not as hard to push down and are closer to the frets. You don’t need to push down the strings as much with an electric guitar as most of the work is done by the pickups and guitar amp. The neck of an electric is smaller than on an acoustic, this means your finger positioning and grip on the guitar will be better. Having a smaller body size will also mean you can have a better posture when playing. If you’re looking for a guitar that can provide effects with use of pedals and enhance the sounds you’re playing, then you want to go electric.
How to choose the right one for you.
Always plan your spending limits beforehand. When you are planning to play with a superior instrument like an electric guitar, be ready to pay the price. Decide the tonewood you would like your guitar to have as each one will affect your sound velocity in its own way. A clear, thin sound will be created by a single coil pickup whilst a double coil will create warm and smooth sounds so before you buy, decide which pickup you are after. Be sure the neck of your guitar is suited to your hands and playing style as these can vary as do the body styles of an electric guitar. Loud amplification comes from a solid body and an acoustic sound will come from semi hollow or hollow bodies. The style you play and the sound you are after will be the ultimate deciding factor.
When buying an electric guitar, amp or bass amp, talk to someone who understands music and the need for the best sound. You can’t go wrong with some good advice and a plan in mind.

Hollow Body Electric Guitars Make Sweet Music
Hollow body electric guitar is also called semi acoustic guitar. It consists of more than one electric pickups and a sound box. It is not similar to any other electric guitar, which has other amplification added by player or the manufacturer. This instrument is primarily designed with amplifier. The sound box is specifically used to produce amplified sound which is not possible by any other solid instruments. The other acoustic and semi-acoustic electric instruments are mandolins and bases. The construction of these guitars is similar to other semi-acoustic electric guitars and has the same limitations as semi-acoustic guitars and are used in the same way as acoustic guitars.
Some guitars are border line between solid body and hollow body electric guitars. Telecaster guitars fall under this category. Some of the guitars have complete hollow body, while others may have solid centre. Hollow body guitars produce richer tone when compared to solid body. An amplifier can be connected to semi-acoustic guitars for a louder sound. This sound cannot be produced by an ordinary guitar. Hollow body electric guitars are considered as ever green and are the favorite guitars for jazz players and band troops.
Gibson, Rickenbacker and Gretsch are one of the top most manufacturers of these types of guitars. In the recent years several manufacturers are producing different new models of these guitars but they cannot beat the top brands listed. No matters how many new guitar models enter into the market the reputation of the top manufacturers of hollow body electric guitars stands on their own merit and is demonstrated by high consumer demand.
When comparing solid body guitars with others, they are heavier in weight than semi-acoustic guitars. In hollow guitars additional chambers are utilized to produce loud sounds and the size of the body is also reduced. There is, however, a negative point about these guitars and that is that they face problems in conditions of high gain amplification. In this situation the sound chambers produces undesireable feedback.
Semi-acoustic guitars consist of pickups which are similar to electric guitars. They have an empty body that helps in producing unique sounds. Electric acoustic, semi acoustic and hollow body are interchangeable terms used for electric guitars. Acoustic guitars consists of pickups where as electric guitars consists of sound chamber. Acoustic electrics and electric acoustics are considered as electric guitars designed with piezoelectric transducers, electromagnetic pickups or condenser microphones. Electric acoustic guitars will not fall under either category of semi-acoustic or hollow body electric guitars. They are entirely unique from these two guitars. Semi-acoustic guitars consist of solid block within.
The most important thing to bear in mind when looking for a hollow body electric guitar is to stick with the most popular manufacturers who have stood the test of time. After all, they’ve been around awhile for a reason!

How does torque, mechanical advantage work in electric guitars and what are harmonics?
I am doing a physics lab about electric guitars. explanations of any of the 3 things would be wonderful. sources if possible would be awsome 2. thanks
The only place I can quickly think of where torque is used in a guitar is in tightening the strings to adjust their tension, and thereby their tune.
Mechanical advantage may be present in a few places. If you understand mech advantage you should be able to spot it easily. I’d argue that using a pick is even using mech advantage.
Harmonics are cool and a very complex thing, and without them every instrument would almost sound the same! Check wikipedia for a good explanation.
