Looking after your wooden furniture...how to choose the right wood wax or timber polish
Most homes have some type of timber furniture - whether it’s an antique family heirloom chest of drawers or a modern dining room table as well as other wooden items, such as a musical instrument. Many homes also have leather or cane furniture - and it’s only when you take time to take stock that you realise just how much ‘natural’ stuff there is in your living space .
’Wooden’ you like to know what the best products to use on your timber furniture are ? Or how to bring out the best in your leather sofa ? Well then, read on. To restore the ‘piece’ in your home, read on to find whether you need to buy cream polish, wood wax, lemon oil or carnauba wax!
Cream polish
A cream polish is used for maintaining timber antiques, viny, marble, leather and fine wooden furniture pieces. Gilly Stephenson, an established manufacturer of a range of timber polish and wood wax in Australia, says cream polish made from natural beeswax is the best treatment for antiques and fine furniture that has been French polished (a method of applying shellac to wood that produces a tough surface with a very glossy, mirror-like finish). Cream polish is also emulsified, so it’s easy to apply - and a little goes a long way.
Carnauba polish
Carnauba wax is a fast drying, high sheen finishing polish for all types of woods and materials (eg tables, marble, base metal, antiques and tortoiseshell. Decoupage finishes can also be treated with carnauba wax, which can also be used on raw wood.
Lemon or orange furniture oil
Orange oil is for people who prefer using a furniture oil rather than a wood wax - and it cleans and restores neglected furniture, maintains a satin finish on antiques, is excellent for cane furniture and for feeding unpolished surfaces. Lemon oil is the best way to care for musical instruments, as it penetrates easily and produces a high gloss while cleaning and nourishing.
Scratch cover and wood wax filler sticks
Furniture wax sticks are coloured sticks used for repairing cracks and small holes in most wooden surfaces whilst scratch cover is used to colour imperfections in dark wood.

Well, this article on how to care for your wood, cane or leather furniture as well as for other wooden items will be music to your ears. From wood wax to cream polish - you’ll find the right product for your furniture to restore the ‘piece’ in the home
Cream polish
Use cream polish on marble, antiques, leather and vinyl. Furniture that has been French polished (ie which has a very high gloss finish) should always be treated with cream polish containing natural beeswax. Cream polish is also emulsified, so it’s easy to apply - and a little goes a long way.
Carnauba polish
This fast-drying, high sheen product is made from beeswax and a high proportion of carnauba wax, making it ideal for use on modern and antique finishes. It can be used on all hard surfaces, eg marble and tortoiseshell, modern and antique furniture and can be also be used to prevent rust on base metals. Raw wood can also be treated with carnauba wax and buffed with a pine brush, plus it is excellent for decoupage.
Lemon or orange furniture oil
Orange oil is good for those who prefer not to use wood wax as it cleans and restores a variety of finishes. It’s a simple way of keeping cane furniture in good condition, is great for old neglected items and for unpolished surfaces, raw or sealed wood. Lemon oil is best for cleaning and nourishing musical instruments - and it contains no silicone and penetrates easily.
Scratch cover and wood wax filler sticks
Scratch cover can revive slightly worn furniture when stripping the timber isn’t warranted whilst furniture wax sticks can be used to repair cracks and small holes in timber surfaces.

Transporting your guitar from one place to another can be tricky. Want to always make sure that your guitar is safe and secure. But it's not just stealing you need to think about, or even something falling on your guitar. There are some things, especially new owners, should know!
Guitars is very sensitive to cold
Just this week, I spent some time, explaining that some new students about the potential risk of "cold" in their guitar. If you do not live in a cold climate, then you do not have to worry about this one, but many us do. I have found many new students, not just thinking about all their guitars. Results can be disastrous
In a climate of winter, you can leave your guitar in the car, without the heat on! For example, you can not put the guitar in the trunk, stop at local markets, go shopping and then continue with your guitar lessons. I do not want my guitar! I'd go home and get my guitar. I have taken my guitar to a restaurant, rather than put it in a cold car.
String of contracts in extreme cold and extreme cold can cause some very serious damage your guitar.
Guitars are very sensitive to heat
If you live in a warm climate, you will not survive. Not can leave your guitar in a warm car, or trunk. Left on a tree, which may in the day, you can also put your guitar in the oven!
In my climate, I deal with both extremes. My simple rule of thumb is never leave my guitar alone in the car. Never. It always goes with me. You do not need to run into trouble with that rule.
Trains, planes and buses
Gig bags, easy-to-use nylon light, zipper bags are wonderful things with. These are particularly easy to use for children because they are so light. I would always consider a gig bag, the second case for convenience. For travel, you want a hard shell case. They are more expensive and well worth the investment.
Gig bags, is however, better than the "soft shell" case. The soft shell case is just cardboard and did not even stand in the water as well. However, if you're serious about Your guitar, protect it with a hard shell case.
Become a bit of a pest, when it comes to handling baggage and always supervise the handling of your guitar when you can. Do not allow it come down the Chute luggage. The baggage handlers should take it by hand. And for the plane, it may be an idea to make sure This, depending on the amount.
Now you can travel with your guitar and learn how to better care for your guitar sound. Your guitar can last a lifetime, but they are sensitive and need special care when transporting them.
