You are bringing a instrument with a lot of sense to you and do not want someone who is just going to toss it in the corner. Secondly, a person has been doing this for a while. You do not want your guitar to be experimented with. Third, get references. If you feel squeamish at all, then you need to talk to a person have had their guitar worked on by this guy / gal.
What a guitar tech can do for you? Almost anything. I had my frets replaced, realigned bridge, nut re-tooled, neck and suitable machines replaced. Normally you take your guitar once a year for a set-up that includes a neck adjustment, cleaning and new strings. A very good tech will also work on your powerful electronics guitars. I am new pick-up installed and remounted whammy bar and volume / tone copper cleaned out.
