What AMEB exams?
Exam time, stress, tension, the hours and hours of practice. And the day came, it is your turn to enter the exam room. you play your set pieces, fly through your procedure. The hearing and vision tests is easier than reading You thought they were. What is left? The general knowledge section, this is the section that seems to evade many students. The question to ask they are easy! It is over, you wait for the envelope marked "the teacher" it holds your exam mark in it. How do you do? You have a glance, pass You! All that hard work finally paid off. What a relief, now to start your next exam.

The Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) appeared in 1918 as a national body with the aim of providing graded assessments of the achievements of students of music. They now also assess speech and drama students. The tests are a way to see what kind of standard students are compared to other students at the same level. In almost all of the instruments has set guidelines Syllabuses placed manual for teachers and students to follow.

There are actually two (2) type of test you can do with the AMEB. There is the practical tests and written tests. I'm going to talk about the practical exam.

The practical exam which students get to show their skills as a musician. You are tested on a stranger in the room with you. There are a minimum of 5 sections on practical tests, these are: education and pieces (including additional listings), technical work, hearing tests, sight reading and general knowledge.

Studies AND bit
Studies and pieces of music that you are playing test. When you buy a grade book for your instrument, there are lists of songs. Example List A, List B and List C (higher grade than the list). Each list has a number of pieces of music for you to play. For the exam you get to choose a song from each list. I recommend trying to find out all the pieces after the selection of pieces you can play the best, and ones that show off all your skills. From the second grade in the seventh grade need to show some pieces of additional lists. They can be taken from your test book, or you can find another song with a similar standard. Technical WORK
Methods can buy books for your grade level. They usually over a grade on them. Techniques are things like scales, arpeggios, and all kinds of little practice, a lot of which, to be played from memory. No reading of music here! Check with your teacher what method you have to do from memory.

Hearing tests
Depending on what grade you enter, there are various tests hearing examiner will ask you to do. Can can guarantee though, have some songs that required in any grade. So get those vocal chords out and start training. The lower the score you will be required to clap a rhythm. Work on your pitch and rhythm and be fine.

Sight reading
This section of the exam requires students to play a piece of music they have never seen before. They will give you a minute or so to inspect them before you play. Use this time wisely. Look at the key signature, time signature and the speed.

GENERAL knowledge
General knowledge, the examiner will look at pieces you played and ask you some questions about it. Questions could be as simple as "what kind of note is that?" But they may ask you some more difficult questions. General Knowledge is different for each grade. See syllabus for more information.

Most of all you should try to enjoy the tests. Stressing out will only make your playing worse! Have fun.
